As the child might say the night before Christmas: It's almost here! It's almost here! It's almost here!

We refer, of course, in our usual slightly gibbering way to the imminent arrival of the new 991-generation 911, which is set for its official debut at the Frankfurt show in September.

And what has got us metaphorically jumping up and down on the sofa until we're almost sick with excitement? Why, it's 1min 22secs of Porsche promo video, giving us a proper taster of the new 911.

Of course, child-like excitement is probably justified when a new Porsche 911 comes along, because it doesn't happen very often. And this 911 is very new indeed: new monocoque, longer wheelbase, enlarged engines, electro-mechanical steering (which worries us), and a seven-speed manual gearbox (which intrigues us).

Anyway, enough rabbiting on, just click on the video below and enjoy...

I think Porsche are at the top of their game just now. The Carrera and Turbo should be epic.. then some GT cars?

Can't get my head around a seven speed manual, would rather they just made sixth longer for better motorway economy, how often does fifth ever get used?

I don't see the problem.

Every 911 model they bring out probably looks the same and the same people say the same thing including the magazines. I don't think Porsche are listening and it didn't stop Fenn buying one.

Tbf they changed the lights on the 996 and made a f**king howler.

It's a 911, of course it looks the same.

It's such an iconic shape, even most woman Recognise a Porsche when they see one. They would be absolute idiots to change the flagship model of their range drastically.

Hopefully the engines in these new ones will stop overheating one side of the block, scoring cylinders then wearing through the liners and then knocking.

  Turbos.

I don't have a problem either, its just Josh said why bother showing pics; we know what its going to look like. I see his mildly humorous point, that's all.

In fairness, Porsche can't really win. If they changed it people would say they've gone mental. They'e just building a car that Porsche owners said they want.

Fair point Fenn. The 996 headlights were warning enough.

Even when they do make new models, the cayenne and the Panny they are still 911's on stills or stretched. All's good with me.

I h'actually love the Panny Turbo S.

I see what you mean. They don't kill you as quickly as the old ones because they keep fiddling with it. (whole new car designed with tracing paper).

I would buy a older 911 though. No-ones going to know the difference
