The New Phone Thread

Had the Pixel 7 just over a week now, the only thing I hate about it compared to my 4 previously, is the fingerprint scanner. Jesus f**king Christ, its absolutely dog s**t. Works once every 5 times or so, really annoying.

I'm still finding a solid reason to swap from my Poco F5, everything bar the camera is superb, highly recommended.

Have you set the same finger twice?

Did you set it up before or after a screen protector?

Decided to grab the S24 Ultra last week so as to be able to claim the free tablet as well.

350 quid up front for the phone and 50 quid/month for unlimited text/calls, 25GB data, no bandwidth caps, BT/TNT/Discovery+ sports (UHD). Would have preferred a cheaper monthly but it'll do for now.

I used to get 20% iirc and battle every 2 years for the bestest deal. Been SIM free for 18 months Which is the sensible choice.

Old skool pixel 4XL?. I'm after something with a slightly better camera and one this has come up. Brand new last year.

Thing with the Poco is battery and charge times, fantastic.

Great deal on the Pixel 8a, currently giving a £150 booster for any trade-ins... so my wife's old Pixel 6 would only cost £230 to get the 8a. Seems decent.

Got my contract down to £19 a month + free prime. Bought a S24+ outright for £620

Seems like they have extended the 'default' contract from 24 to 36 months (and kept the price the same over the longer time span) so I stubbornly went this way.

I think in 24 months time I'll have paid roughly the same amount of money compared to my last 24 month contract and I'm ahead of a 36 month contract.

Looking at the last page or so of this thread I clearly missed offers season so I guess I'll have to look out for that next time round.

Imagine 3 years of that CPI increase or whatever.. 4% standard and anything they want to bolt on per year.

I'd never sign into 3 years.

I did a 24month, but hopefully the increase will work out OK as my monthly started at £26..

My £46 a month contract was near £60 at the end 🤮🤮🤮

Yeah they're ripping the piss these days. Doubt I'd ever have a contract again with 0% from manufacturer and the abundance of aim only deals. Also the second hand market is insane for phones. They can lose 3-4 hundred weeks after launch as folk get freebies etc and punt them on.

One of the groups I use had a pixel 8 for £300.

The S24 ultra was available for just over £600 trading in a shitter from ebay, last week.

Just ordered an S24 Ultra to replace my S21 Ultra... Nothing wrong with the S21, but the offer from Samsung was decent!

20% off the S24 base price.

£260 trade-in discount.

£200 cash back offer.

Free Galaxy Watch6 (£289 value).

I just bought 4 * s23s for £960 after cashback.

And a fuckton of lights from debenhams in an unrelated capacity 😂

Absolutely sickened by the customer support from Google... if you can call it that. So much so, the wife has decided against another Pixel and gone back to iPhone.

That's a shame. They're starting to make some good phones.

I'm sure they're good to use, but hers got gradual screen bleed which basically overtook the entire phone over a few days, so it would seem from our limited experience they don't last that long!

The 'support' told us that because she has a small scratch on the screen, this void her warranty, so they wouldn't replace the screen for free. Started to argue the case with them, and they just ghosted us.

Apparently identical the the base s23 bar the processor, though I've not checked to confirm.
The processor is a big deal because the s23 is that good. They really took a slight step back in quality with the exynos chip set. Battery life etc.

That’s a shame. It definitely isn’t common I would say that much. No one can touch Apple for service in fairness.

It's marginal though...

both battery lives are acceptable for the price range, I've bought the s23s myself, so if they're more desirable then perfect.

Who carried out the test? Is that SD S24?

My apologies they are closer than I remember.

Yeah Snapdragon 8 gen 2.

I took that from gsmarena. At £240 for the s23, it's a relative bargain.
