The new TV thread

Love it. Rear of the stand is fudging heavy though eh :ROFLMAO: If you are looking for something to wow you on it give Wonder Woman a go.

It's all really heavy haha, feels well made though!

I'm loving the TV so far, spent about an hour setting it up, then watched the F1 and now I'm watching Bly Manor, mainly because it looks stunning 😂

I've also had to rearrange the lamp due to reflections, it's mega reflective if you have a lamp opposite.

I’m considering buying this Samsung UE55TU8500 for £599, including 5 year warranty.

Anyone got any reasons not to, or a decent alternative? It’s just for watching TV, not fussed on specs tbh, no gaming, just after something more recent than my 10 year old KDL46x3000, which is on its way out.

Is it worth waiting for Black Friday? I fear there’ll be so many options it’ll just complicate things and with no real requirements I’ve got very little to help make a decision, I've basically picked this option relatively randomly.

Are you gunna get a next gen console?

You've gotta pay attention to the specs if you do, to make sure it properly supports the high res stuff.

Is there some recommendations for this? I'm looking to get the PS5 next year, and will be getting a new TV when the new models come out, around April? Not sure what I'm looking for to be honest. Probably looking around 50"

I'm going to go into Curry's when they open in Wales again (we don't have anywhere else locally) and check out the some LG's and Samsung's.

Might wait and see what's about for Black Friday before I buy something though as knowing my luck I'll get one and the following week it'll be half price 🤣

CX has arrived. Holy s**t it is stunning. Desperately needs better sound though! Roll on Black Friday so I can get a decent soundbar
How are you mounting it?

I'm interested to know which bar you go for if you're using the included stand.

On the stand.. there's a different bar? I just have the big silver bit at the front, and then the big black part that attaches to the TV

Looks the same as in your picture I think.. lemme take a picture

Which sound bar I meant! Some people on AVF are buying third party stands for the TV so they can use their favourite sound bars without blocking the screen, but the included stand is so nice it would be a shame to spoil it with some aftermarket thing.

Oh! I'll probably push the TV all the way to the back of the TV unit and put the soundbar right at the front, should mean I don't block the screen.. and if that annoys me then maybe a different stand!

Most of the soundbars I've found are slightly too tall (using your measurements) to put right under it

I noticed the 55 was cheaper than the 48 which hurts a bit. My situ below. Would you have a tv going past a door facing? Why didn’t they move the door along a bit. Ffs.

We got the 65" CX a couple of weeks ago. The stand though very smart is too low for any/all decent soundbars. Our old LG 55" C8 stood tall enough on its stand to allow our Samsung HW-950 soundbar to sit in front with just enough height clearance. We dont get that with the CX so its went on the wall and now I've went down the Sonos ARC soundbar route.

As for the "Why is the 48" more expensive than the 55" is purely down to manufacturing costs:

Think I'm gonna order a Sonos Arc, but will hold off until Black Friday/Cyber Monday in case it gets slightly discounted somewhere

How do you find yours @N0ddie ?

It is fantastically fantastic. I went for the Arc + 2 Sonos surrounds and their sub. As a neat package that just sounds awesome it cannot be beat.

Excellent

I'll start with just the Arc I think, then I'll get the rest another time. Maybe the surrounds first and then the sub.. depending on how good/bad the Arc is on the low end to my ears

The Arc on its own is awesome. We just like our movies, so the surrounds and sub just give it that extra bit.

Looking to buy another TV shortly and like the idea of the sets with 'Freeview Play' built in, I have never used it myself- has anybody here?

Plus any recommendations on what's best 2020, criteria 49/50" (max size) and sub £500 + Freeview Play,

Those struggling with a soundbar have you considered Sonos playbase? I was looking at them before to go with my LG C7. If the measurements line up it could be worth a look.

Went to my local Curry's today to look at some in person. They didn't have many on display though so I'm going to try a larger store this week.
Not sure how the staff tie their own laces, let alone manage a sale, absolute spackers.

I think I'm going to have to go for this Samsung. Can only go to 50" for where it is in the room and I'm not redecorating at the moment. Wall mounted is out of the question too (again, not chasing in wires and decorating over) and we haven't got the room for a wider unit.

Has its own version of HDMI 2.1 and VRR (which isn't supported by PS5 yet but it's likely to be in an update) although other review's states it's the cheapest PS5 ready TV.

I'd like the LG OLED but 55" is just too big 😫

If anyone else can suggest any other 50" with a central stand (or not right at the edges) then I'm all ears.

The Q80 is riddled with issues, especially for gaming, check out the link I posted a few pages back.

The LG CX is available in 48" too....

Yeah it's out of budget unfortunately. Ridiculous that it's £200 more than the 55" 😂

I'm speaking to a manager of Curry's tomorrow (one of the parents at school) so I'll see what he can get it down to.

I'll have a read of the link you posted. I'd seen that Samsung in a list of top next gen TV's too 😒. - just read another link and the 48" is only 60hz and has bad viewing angles so they say to go for the 55"

Easy solution: Mount TV to wall using a moveable bracket. When you need to get into that door, you'll be able to move the TV across out the way. Now you can upgrade to a 65+" TV without any problems.

Personally the issues with the Samsung make it not worth getting, I knew the smaller models are a lesser spec but didn't realise that included the 48"!

If you can't stretch to the CX but must have HDMI 2.1 than I'd consider the Sony XH90, yes the 2.1 update last month did cause some issues but Sony have been quick to revoke the update and are working on a fix. I expect it will get fixed soon too as it's their PS5 TV. The downside of the Sony is poor HDR, but you have to sacrifice one of price, HDMI 2.1 or HDR.

It’s an option Darryl but I’ve actual moved everything around and now I can indeed choose whatever size I want. It’s a fairly small space (13ft by 11ft) and viewing distance is about 5.5ft. So now I’m debating between a 55 or 65. What a mission this is.

I've just been looking at the Sony. I've seen that you can change the stand from outside to inside of the TV. I'll have to double check the size of the TV and see if it fits. Don't want it hanging over the unit with 2 kids in the house.
I thought Sony would bring an update to support 2.1 if they are touting it as their TV for the PS5 (which is the only reason I'm upgrading TBH)

f***s sake. Seems the only option for the UK version is the wide feet. Cheers, kids crying.

Yes, the XH90 will get HDMI 2.1 support via a firmware update, like I said they did release this last month but it was buggy so it has been revoked and will be released again soon.

Well I'm excited. Just sold my Samsung 55" TV and ordering a 65" LG Cx to treat myself after reading some of the comments in here from @Cookson @N0ddie and @jenic

It's £1800 atm at curry's

Hopefully it fits on here nicely.

No concerns about sound as I have a dolby atmos 5.1.2 set up so should be great! (was doing some tuning earlier)

Pretty sure if you buy it from currys, it has a slightly different model number, and they have the UK exclusive on adjustable feet lol
Cheers. I'll do some more digging then. Can't see it on their site, just the wide feet.

Info on the stand here: https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/lg/1412031/lg-cx-oled-review

In the UK, there are two key variants of the LG CX, the CX6LA and CX5LB. The former is exclusive to Currys PC World; all other retailers will sell the latter. The differences are purely cosmetic, as the CX5LB has a silver stand while the CX6LA is finished in dark grey. Panel specifications and picture quality will be identical, no matter where you buy the CX.

It really makes no difference, it's once again a retailer selling a product they can argue is slightly different and potentially don't ever have to price match.

Ordered! f**king excited

Without shitting on your parade, what’s the warranty that Curry’s offer? I’d have personally bought from another retailer (Richer Sounds/Peter Tyson) as they offer 5 year warranties which I would highly recommend with anything OLED.

I kinda agree, which is why I went with Richer Sounds. But Currys offer 5 years now for free on a lot of high end sets and there is some history of Currys letting people claim for screen burn which every other warranty 100% won't cover with the exception of the accidental option offered by John Lewis.

It's swings and roundabouts, in my experience all the warranties sub contract the work out to the same moronic TV repair companies that have existed since the 1960s and don't appreciate the complex architecture of modern TVs
