The new TV thread

Why can't it hang over a little with the kids? The 55" is much better value.
Because their toy basket is next to it and he's constantly taking the lid off. If it overhangs then it's going to get knocked. If I shifted it to the left then I won't be able to close the blinds properly as it will be too close to the window.
Quite a small living room and not much space to store them/ move the TV around. The 48" would be right to the edge so the 55" would go over a fair bit.

Definitely better value but I'm hopeful of another slight drop in price again soon before the 2021 models come out.

This is my 40, maybe 42" on the stand. A 55" would be massive. Have to have it on an angle too so we can see it from both sofas.
Knew I should have got a wider stand 😂

The CX is a fantastically fantastic TV. The in-built speakers are ok for a thin TV but definitely would recommend a soundbar at least to go with it (though if you use the stand there are no soundbars that fit in front of the TV without impacting on the bottom edge of the screen).

I'm looking for 2 TVs. One for the living room, 55" and one for the bedroom, 42". Neither will be used much so don't really need to go mega on specs nor do I need soundbars etc. Any recommendations? Only used for Netflix/amazon prime. Been years since I last bought a new TV so I'm guessing a mid range 4K can be had for cheap?

After a chat with the wife I went to pull the trigger on this and now can't find it in stock anywhere I fancy buying from.

Found the Sony KD65HX9005 on the Hughes website for £100 less than JL etc and it was in stock.
Should be here Saturday.

My trusty Hisense just blew up, and has been taken away for repair although the engineer bloke said it’s unlikely as parts are hard to get. Richersounds will give me the purchase price back of £460. Don’t mind topping it up a bit to around £600.

It’s a TV for the bedroom, 50 or 55 inch.. any recommendations? (must be from Richersounds).

Is this any good?

I went Hisense last year then returned it and bought a Mid range LG for 500 odd, decent screen and all the TVs around that sort of money seem much of a muchness

So new models start coming out around April/May don't they. Anything key to look for this year? Hoping to pick up a new one around 46-47" this year. Will be gaming on it, but not main function.

Can you not stretch to 48” as that OLED posted above would be perfect imo.

The LG 48. Either last year's which is mentioned above, or their new one which is tipped to be around £1200.
46-47" is a really odd size I think.

Actually yes I probably could. Current TV is on a stand, new TV will be going on the chimney breast, but just measured and I do definitely have space for a 48" good shout :)

Well I've eventually sorted a new TV.
48" LG from Richer Sounds. £1093 and I've got a nominated delivery of July 1st for my fiat day off shift. 6 year warranty on it.
Still don't know if I've got a long term job as the contract hasn't been signed yet, least it'll be good for watching daytime TV if I'm unemployed 😂😂😂

I know nothing about tv's and looking at getting a 50" tv for the sitting room. Looking somewhere betwen £500 and £1000, We've had well my parents had Samsung past few tv's and thought about going over to LG. My Brother has a 55" and that size will be too big, 50" will be ideal.

One of the negatives is where the tv is and there's sunglight going through the window and making the tv screen quit dark making it hard to see properly. Is newer tv's counter this issue?

The current tv is non HD 4K, around mid 40"s nothing special and looking to upgrade. Any thought and suggestions.

You playing the PS5 on this @Geddes ?
Try and stretch to what I've got if you can. Supports 120fps because it's HDMI 2.1.

There's a Sony mentioned in the last few pages which might be decent. The non oled LG in that price range won't be great and neither will the Samsung iirc.

You'll want to avoid OLED if you suffer from reflections/direct sunlight.

For that budget you'll get a great TV, I'd go with the sony 49XH9505.

Alright, nah I’m not. The tv is downstairs in the sitting room. I’ve got my PS5 hooked up to my pc monitor 27” in my room. I’m looking at a LG 27” 2.1 which is coming soon on Overclockers. I also get sunlight reflecting on my monitor too, so I normally play when it’s overcast or later in the day. So looking at a different brand like Sony be a good option then for the situation

TV arrived today. Bonus delivery of some Tone free headphones which I wasn't expecting due to also having £100 off the TV price.
Bit gutted that the TV is as low as it is from the top of the unit, can't slide the sky box under it like the last one.
Will have to do some rearranging, might have to stand the PS5 up behind it if it fits.
Just need to fiddle with the settings now.

That's the issue with the LGs, especially when it comes to soundbars.

I'd put the PS5 upright behind the TV and the Sky box in the unit, that's what I've done with my sky box and XSX. It will aid cooling of the console too, it doesn't look too happy squashed in there!

That's the plan for tomorrow. It should fit stood up on its stand as it's narrower than the sky box is.

I'm glad I didn't buy a sound bar otherwise it would have had to sit a few inches in front of the TV meaning it would have overhung the unit. I'm also glad I didn't risk the 55" as that would have overhung on both sides.

People on AVforums have been using the Ikea Persby shelf (for 48") or the Lack shelf for the bigger ones to raise them for fitting sound bars if that helps.

One thing I really liked about the Samsung qled. The base fits our older Bose soundbar perfectly. Couldn't be any neater.

Just need a new TV unit, want some solid wood but need to change another 2 items in the livingroom!

I'm playing Ratchet & Clank but have it set on 4K @ 60fps. Haven't tried the 120fps, is it the better setting? Lowers the resolution right?

Yeah I don't think anything is 120fps at 4k just yet 😒
Smoother but not as good quality.
Noticed on Spiderman it reduces the resolution for higher FPS, same with Assassin's Creed.

How's Ratchet and Clank?

Any suggestions for a half decent smart tv upto 40 and budget £300.

Cheers.
Pretty much every screen at that size is just a budget set.

And at that price you'll be choosing between Hisense/TCL/JVC etc, the budget brands.

I'd just choose the one you like the interface of the most, I had a similar budget for a bedroom TV and got the JVC fire tv, it was slow and laggy but Amazon have just released an all new UI in the latest software update and it's really snappy now, I'm happy with it for the price (about £170 as a refurb from Currys).
