The new TV thread

Does it not do a great job of upscaling SD channels then?

I'm still undecided. I'm not paying £1500 for the 48" version and I'm not risking my kids knocking the 55" off the unit because it sticks over so much.
Anh 4K tv will upscale very well.

Who the f**k pay £1500 for 48 inches though! What kind of tv is it! Oled? My one is 65 inch qled and was less than that.

It's the LG OLED. From reviews, it pisses all over any QLED in tests. It's the same as most seem to have in this thread tbh just smaller. I think it was @jenic who explained why it was so expensive (more expensive than the 55"). Cut from the same screen sheet as the 75" so not so many produced? It's also the first year they have done 48".
The Sony version is £1600 at least and the Panasonic is more again iirc.

That's why I asked, they are superb oled, I couldn't pay that kinda money for 48 inch that's all. Diminishing returns for average consumer at that price.

I've view quite a few lg oleds over the years b9 c9 etc and they are amazing, when I went to buy one I wanted size over pure quality where I knew the oled wouldn't make as much difference to me as the size would. My qled isn't half bad and would compete easily with previous gen LG oleds in my experience. The new ones are the cream of the crop but you pay for the privilege and from my use, the value isn't there.

There's a guy on YouTube who tests loads. I don't watch many films but some of the blooming on the Samsung and LG non OLED TV's was shocking tbh. If I had more room I would have had the CX55 when it was £1200. The BX is a grand now!

Sony have just announced their new lineups for 2021.
50" now comes with 120fps and HDMI2.1.
No price or release date yet though. I'm wondering if their 2020 48" OLED will drop enough for me to get it.

The BX is a steal at the moment, I'd have one over a CX now. I only got the CX when I did because it was a safer bet before the next gen consoles came out.

I actually had a BX for a week and upgraded to the CX aad the difference is brigjtness (nits) is worth it during HDR and dolby vision content. I'm glad I made the change,

Daft question, but what is blooming? Light bleed?
It might be what I experience with my LG. It's f**king awful for it and I've regretted buying it ever since. Only 2 years old but it'll be going soon

Yup, light bleeding when on a dark screen. This video shows it quite well. That's why I'm so sceptical of spending a grand on a TV for it to do this.

Yeah that's it. The most annoying bit is if you're watching a channel with a white logo in the corner. Dark screen but one whole side glows because of the logo.

Absolute dog s**t

@Aaron..

£1279 at Sevenoaks with voucher GDSAVE200

I bought mine from Richer Sounds, who matched Sevenoaks with a similar voucher and knocked another £20 off. So if JL fail you then you could try them.
Cheers. Also Curry's apparently price match and they are also very close to me.
Everything suggests that all LG OLEDS come with a 5 year warranty so there might not be any issues wherever I get it. It's just easier if I can take it to get warranty repaired (if needed).

So JL won't honour that because it's in store only now even though their website stated online or in-store.

I've emailed Richer sounds to see if they will, if not, Curry's have it with the same offer but I've read a few nightmare reviews on their warranty service if I were to need it.

RS might not match if you don't have a Sevenoaks close to them?

Why not just buy from Sevenoaks online? They are a reputable retailer, certainly more highly regarded than Currys.

Edit: Just seen it's not available online any more, it was when I posted it 😂

Yeah it was available but probably because they don't have local stores to me. I'd not heard of them before tbh.
I should have ordered it online yesterday 😂

Amy recommendations for a tv that’s 43” or slightly bigger for up to £400.

the self turning off feature that ours has developed is apparently getting more regular according to her in doors. She lost her s**t with it tonight, which while entertaining, it was also a bit of an inconvenience. 😂

I'm rubbish with tech and specs so I'll turn to CS.

60-65" 4K TV
I'm not a gamer so will just be Netflix, Amazon etc.
Budget £1000 maximum, Closer to £750 would keep the wife off my back.

Always had LG's but we both now have Samsung Phones and Tablets.

Link me up folks.

You're probably in mid tier, personally for that budget I'd get the Sony XH9005 if it had to be 65" (I'd actually sacrifice size for an LG 55BX if it was my money), the Hisense is technically superior but having had problems with the brand's TVs in the past I wouldn't touch them again.

I keep questioning if to go with a 55" to get a better TV but we've just moved and the lounge is much bigger so thinking the extra size is needed.

Just an update on the LG cx.

Genuinely blown away by it still, I figured it would be one of those feelings that last a week or so when you get some new equipment but nope. Still got it, especially when playing the ps4 the picture is just mega.

The clarity when you're side on is crazy too, it's so clear (and absolutely pointless as why would you watch TV from that angle) but still impresses me!

(screen was turned off after the pic btw)

Perfect for watching YouTube vids too!

@dann2707 can you please do me a favour, move your speaker (?) from the left of the TV and take a photo of how much space you have behind it? Not sure if your unit goes all the way to the wall.
This TV (48") is still very much in consideration, what I hadn't considered is my 6 month old soon being able to pull my PS5 from the hole in the front of the unit. I need to see if there's enough space behind the TV with its stand to place the PS5 there.

Yes mate I will do this for you now

Brilliant.
Looks like there's enough room to stand it uptight behind it then, even with a gap to the wall of 8cm behind mine.

Good stuff man. If you need any proper measurements let me know and I will get them for you
Cheers.
It was annoying because in Curry's everything was wall mounted. Stand looks alright though and the 48" will be a perfect fit. Can't have larger because of 2x kids and it hanging over the edge of the unit.
Just got to wait this month now to see if we've got a contract with work before I break into my savings 😒

Are all the catch-up apps on there now or do they still have issues? Annoyingly because we don't subscribe to them all on Sky, we have to use the TV if we want to use All 4 I think.

Why can't it hang over a little with the kids? The 55" is much better value.

People with the CX’s. What are your thoughts on the sound through the speakers? Any good or would be better with sound bar etc?
