Had the car back couple of weeks now, done few hundred miles and drives absolutely beautifully. Literally cannot believe how nice the gearbox is despite it being a 100 quid unknown I bought a decade ago, abused for 6 years in a 300bhp turbo car and then left in my shed for the next 4. Unbelievable!

Fitted the dodgy painted badges....20ft test passed.

Went to a classic car show and bought set of brand new headlights too

Pics!

Not updated this for a while, had some more bits done to the car since the cambelt service, primarily to get the Aircon working as it's never worked under my ownership and after attempting to regas it during the cambelt service which resulted in a blown out condenser.

Mick sourced a new unit with dryer and it got fitted along with new headlights and the regas which took...…...so fingers crossed moment, would the compressor work, was the pressure switch okay...….yep! all good initially. then after using the car few days noticed that the a/c took while kick on after button pressed and there was also a small leak from a pipe. Replaced the pressure switch and now it turns on nice and quick, plus think few on/off cycles has free'd up the clutch pack on the compressor which obviously hadn't seen any use in years.

all I need now is a new pipe to replace the weeping one (the alloy looks to of weakened or gone porus on one of the jounts to the compressor itself, its annoyingly not just the seals)

apart from that just been loving using the car, it really does drive beautiful and great to have it back on the road, right gearbox, belts all done, everything working as it should.

clicked over 155k not long back and I've piled another 500 or so on since then I think, before winter hits and she gets moth balled again except for the dry days! I genuinely think I prefer driving this car over the 182, the 182 is more practical and useable every day (no cup holders does my head in for example, and no cruise for work trips is devastating! lol!) but overall its just smoother and more enjoyable to just get stuck into the experience.

anyway, enough waffle, some pics

oh and the obligatory I've been to Mick's and seen @SharkyUK 's trophy pics in there of course
Of course! :ROFLMAO:(y) (Thank you)
That poor trophy! Must be about time for a Sharky update!?
Nothing to report mate. Covid has kinda thrown a spanner in the works my end (which is frustrating as the Trophy is basically done and driveable). I've said it a kazillion times before but it is actually pretty much there.

refitted the orange side repeaters to match the oe bulbs in the new headlights along with some nightbreaker bulbs

acquired a set of mk1 clio speedline maracana's from @Dr Jekyll 's mate and fitted my spare set of AD08R tyres too them, they are actually for the mk1 red track car, however couldn't resist popping them on the phase 1. I also acquired the correct bolts and original key for the centre caps which are rare to find, cleaned up the bolt heads, fitted the lot and took a few snaps. I am seriously falling for this car now, its just coming together perfectly! getting to do all the exciting little touches now and replace worn items for new etc which is just a lovely place to be with it as a project......although costs are climbing!

Day out to Surrey rolling road today with the mk1 crew, although we're unfortunately mostly in mk2's or mk2 powered these days, only 2 F7 engines on show!

Took the phase 1 however to see how she was, nice stock car with nice stock power it transpires. Spec is totally stock, stock intake, airbox and filter, stock manifold and original cats still in place. 155k miles, nearly clicked 156k after the trip. So nice healthy result imo.

both the stalks are wrong, arse!

Appears phase 1 are lucas items not valeo and not cross compatible really. Plus colour match ain't quite right.

So bought a lucas one..... for a poverty spec it bloody seems as only single fog light position.... dammit should of looked closer on the popular auction site advert... the hunt continues

So I painted some spare inlets with aluminium finish rattle cans and refitted the cleaner of my spare engine covers instead

Cheers

Ben

Another small addition, cheap ebay boot mat, fits perfect and looks the part so for just over a tenner I'm happy, help protect the original even though don't really use the car boot much tbh

Was going to buy some new injectors, then a set of 6 month old genuine came up, chap moved to 197 ones. So snaffled them up

Fitted the 'new' injectors and she's running sweet now. Also dismantled the dash to replace the top dash and stalks for the ones from the silver car as they're in better condition.

Whilst I was at it, thought I'd investigate why the serv and airbag lights didn't work on ignition..... quality fix from the past here!

All back together and working as Renault intended now. Presume somewhere down line the seat airbags were causing grief so some bugger bunged the lights. I've had them clipped out as not using them with the recaros anyway.

Nice simple little job ticked off the list, sun visors removed, took old stickers off and cleaned them up.

Then refitted a new sticker kit from Renault.

I'm really enjoying having the car at the point where I can just tinker with these little fun jobs and enjoy the thing.

Cheers

Prepping for MOT tomorrow and more old phase 1 gremlins rear their head, nothing major other than rarity and as such, cost....... sigh

luckily had a spare in shed from the breaker.... But now I'm worried that's just going to snap now too. Boo hiss. I'm going to look into replacing the rubber on the broken one.

Cheers

How did you get the sticker on the drivers visor mirror flap? I also took mine off the weekend as it was flaking. But nothing seems to shift the glue - tried IPA, nail varnish remover and heated with a heat gun. It’s just the last little bits of the glue.
The next thing I was going to try was carb cleaner but that I am sure will damage the plastic.

I just scraped it all off with a Costa Coffee card then chucked it in the sink with the pots when I did them and used the scouring sponge to get rest off. Initial bit with the Costa card had to be pretty brutal as the backing was stuck fast

I did loads of scrapping like you did, was easier after using a heat gun but didn't get it all off. I might have to give it another go then with more elbow grease.
