The order of things to come this week (detailing)

  182 FF
This week i will be mostly cleaning my car!

This will be the order of things, i am after any advice on products etc. I am trying one of those halfords polishers that are £30. I know there are better ones, but i had to fork out for a new Pside spring for my sports tourer, anyway.

1. Wash using mcguiers
2. Dry
3. Clay using mcguiers clay kit
4. Wax using Autoglym deeep shine or carnauba wax.
5. Polish using halfrauds polisher.
6. Not sure.

I am trying to out-do a black 182 in the area. Help me beat him.

Polish to clean the paint/get rid off any defects then wax to protect and add shine, also worth doing all the trim, plastics and tyres to finish it off

What about the plastics i usually use the autogylm
bumper snot. Also is it best to forget the halfrauds polisher. If so what do you apply polish with, i usually use halfords rag.

Well if your going down the hand route then get yourself some pads from cleanyourcar.co.uk. These will do the job and they're cheap and cheerful.

The polisher will probably do more harm then good so it's best to leave that out the picture.

The trims you could go for AG Plastic Detailer

Just a tip when using the pads, Little is more.

Also, always go in straight lines rather then swirl making circles.

Best thing to do is have a good long search through this section, if you're still thinking it's wax then polish you've not searched enough.

You'll also never outdo a black car with a silver one in terms of shine, so don't bother trying. Just concentrate on getting it free from tar etc then seal it up to keep the grime off.

What the hell you on about you lot?? :S

Polish can be worked in circles..but wax and any sealent should be done it straight lines.

What do you think a "round" pad on a polisher does!

What the hell are you on about ?

A round pad on a polisher that spins....

A hand applicator, which is also round, which you move back and forth. ;)

What about headlights? Mine could do with having the glass biffed, any good products for that, they are a bit scratched

AG Glass polish but it will be hard work by hand depending on size and depth of scratches. Machine polisher is best for that.

Circles or straight lines - makes not a s**t bit of difference. Swirls aren't circular scratches in paint lol, they are simply scratches in the paint which you see reflecting out from the source of whatever light is on the car, hence why they move when you or the light does!

Good effort on your 182, it looks a lot better for it. What did you use?

Also, silver can look as good as black, but it's obviously not as reflective... that doesn't mean it can't look dripping wet with the right product selection.
