Anyone who's gone for a Zen 3 CPU. They show a good performance increase running 4x8gb of ram rather than 2x8gb. Also 3200 CL14 is better than 3600 CL16.

I've seen somewhere that 3600 CL14 would give a performance increase on the Zen 3.

I'm sure it's been coverd before but i'm a noob in pc's but my pc fans are kicking in each day more than usual past month or so it's like a jet taking off only last a couple seconds each time. It's never done this before, Why is this? I'm doing nothing different other than general browsing and streaming Netlfix and that. Thanks

Ive been building this map in far cry 5, started off using pictures from a real place but made bits up as I progressed. Tedious to say the least but once youve got a good base its easier to add too.

Have you got any local access to an air compressor? I spoke to the garage before I went for the MOT and they were happy for me to use theirs on my PC - lol.

Doing it by hand or with those cans of compressed air will only do half a job. You need proper PSI behind it as dust and debris will collect in all nooks and crannies. Don't forget to blast out the PSU, CPU heatsink and GPU fan specifically. If your PC case has a filter tray, unclip it and just wash it in warm, soapy water and a quick blast of a hairdryer (not too hot!) will sort that out.

Left unchecked with your PC building up dust and you'll soon reach the thermal thresholds where the PC will immediately shutdown due to overheating.

There's a petrol station down the road where they have the tyre pressure lines, but i don't really have a garage i could pop too local to lend theit pressure lines like, good idea never thought about that. Next time i cold try that.

I got a 400ml spray bottle delivered today of Amazon and that did the trick, was quit dusty but not as bad as other videos i've seen on YouTube. It does for what i need, I'm not really bothered if it's imaculate like, just as long as it got rid of the thick stuff.

I'd check if that HS&F unit doesn't need to be rotated 180 degrees.

If the airflow fan is an inlet rather than exhaust, then you'll be fighting the incoming cool air from the front of the case (presumably). Apologies for my scribbling, but leaving it as is, looks like you could have the top image. Flipped around, would be much better for airflow, assuming front mounted fans existed.

Plus, 'Arctic' would be the right way around if the HS&F was rotated.

It definitely needs turning around.

You might get lucky if the fan and shroud can come off and be attached the other way.

Also, as they've put it on backwards it makes me wonder what the thermal paste application is like.

Just says its been fitted with pre applied mx-2 thermal paste, i have sent them an email to see what's gone on.

As @Daz... says - if it came like that, it's likely to be the wrong way around. It's not going to ruin anything as such, but it's far from optimal if left like it is.

Moving the heat-sink off is a very straight-forward process - but I wouldn't do it without having some decent replacement paste on the sidelines. Removing old paste is easy with with likes of rubbing alcohol and tissue wipe and again as @Daz... says - it does make you think how the original paste was applied if the unit is 180 degrees around?

Usually, you can see a little direction marker on the outer edge of fan units which indicate the way the air blows. Just make you have the motherboard on something slightly compliant with some give and free of static - a sheet of cardboard is usually ideal to work off.

Thermal paste loses its efficiency over the years - ending up brittle and chalky. I've been lazy with mine and only swapped it the other weekend after a good 4 years of my system being built. I'd normally aim for at least half that.

This is why i said do it yourself lol, just unscrew it and turn it around. If you take it off and the paste doesn't cover the cpu and its not a nice even layer then clean it off and put your own on.

You might get away with it, if the shroud comes off you might be able to turn it all around, otherwise you will have to take it off.

All about Coolermaster paste or MX4. I'm pretty sure piss is a better conductor compared to preapplied😂

Yep, doesn't have the bracket, and it looks like they are not longer made for that cooler, so can't fit it, i don't think cooling will be a major issue, and from what i am reading it looks like the fan just clips on, so i may well be able to swap it round.

The cooler comes with pre applied MX2 paste for easy assembly, at £20 i don't think it's looking to break any records on the cooling front... 😂

Tbh my brother bought a £17 uphere one and used some of my paste and it dropped.his CPU temps from 90⁰C+ to about 60⁰C😂

Get him a Noctua or a Cryorig double 120mm cooler

Definitely my favourite if I was running on air alone.

But the colour scheme of Noctua..... my god. Even looks out of place on a Morris Marina from the late 70s! Thankfully they've got some black products now, presumably having realised that people don't want the colours of sun-bleached brown and creme caramel in their latest PC build.

Anything really with a bit of detergent action to it. I've even used glass cleaner in the past - but don't use anything abrasive like cream cleaner (JIF).

As mentioned earlier, we've got a big bottle of rubbing alcohol in the office and use that regularly. The big plus point with that is that it tends to dry quickly in normal atmospheric conditions once the debris of the old paste comes off.

The paste sticks to everything too - so make sure you have more tissue at hand to remove it from your hands! A cotton-bud is a good applicator - so long as it doesn't start to separate and leave strands in amongst the fresh paste.

edit - it goes without saying - clean both the plate surface of the heat sink and also the lid of the CPU too. Don't do just one side.

Best thing for cleaning is 99.9% acetone but I've used anti-bac wipes before and just dried it properly😂😂
