You can build a PC for under 2k with the above card.

I've got a pc going spare you can stick a better card in.

AMD 5600
Thermalright grand macho cooler
32gb 3200 DDR4
Nvidia 3050
850w modular PSU
Gigabyte B450 motherboard
2 X 1tb M2 hard drives

This with a 5800X3D or 12700k and that 6950XT would be a beast. Though that 6950XT price is "Today Only".

Also, @Ph1 Tom , what CPU did you upgrade to from the 5600?

How does it compare to a 3080ti?

I mean I'm not really that fussed about ray tracing itself but generally I'd prefer higher image quality. Is anyone really going to see the difference between 120 or 130fps but you might notice better quality image or ray tracing etc.

Got to say I jumped on Horizon 5 the other day and was amazed at how good it looked even compared to the XSX on my LG C1.

Poll the majority of gamers and they’ll pick performance over Ray Tracing every day of the week.

Image quality will improve over time as GPUs become more capable due to increased processing performance. The increased performance will mean that more aspects of ray tracing can be realised and used as opposed to just reflections, shadows and limited global illumination (as we currently have). Both nVidia and AMD are committed to it but it will take a little bit of time to get there. It will also make game development (at least on the graphics side) a bit easier as we can do away with a lot of the hacks, smoke and mirrors that current rasterised games use.

I would expect so, yes. My point is that ray tracing is the natural evolution of where GPUs are going. It won't be a discussion point in time as all GPUs will support it out-of-the-box and we'll see the benefits it can bring. Just a little while until we get there, though. It's also a bit of a paradigm shift in how GPUs are built and operate.

For the minority that fancy themselves as some kinda hot-shot gamer, I agree. Other than that, ray tracing is where it's at and where it's ultimately going. Just need the hardware and performance to ramp up a few levels!
I completely agree in the long term. In some games that are slow paced where you can get away with lower frame rates it's looking great already. DLSS and FSR help but even the 3090 isn't man enough really at the moment.

For current gen cards FPS/£ is still king and at the moment the 6950XT is really where it's at.

Buy the dip?

GPU prices dropped 15% in May, and we've seen similar 10–15% drops each month for the past several months. We saw the best graphics cards come back into stock (at retail) as GPU mining profitability has plummeted — and that was before Bitcoin and Ethereum crashed again

This has happened before — back in 2018, when it resulted in a massive oversupply of many GPU lines. AMD's Polaris GPUs, such as the RX 570 and RX 580, went from being wildly-popular mining GPUs to being cards you could pick up for a song.

And it's not just retail prices that will threaten sales — used GPUs will start to flood the market as people abandon cryptocurrency mining.

Added more ram today. OBS/COD was crashing over the last few days, turns out I was approaching the limit on my ram. Now up to 32GB so all good now 👌🏻

Do you have 4x8gb now? I was considering it for a while although I feel the extra ram could be wasted on me but wasn't sure if it was best to just swap out the 2x8gb I have and get 2x16gb.

Decided 12700k and a 3080ti as a minim.

GDR5 ram will be a must also.

Any ideas on motherboard, cooling, case and power?

Err, my last two motherboards have been MSI ones, been fine. Cooling, Fractal fans are the tits but I have a Corsair all in one cooler for the CPU. Case, I can’t remember what ones but I know Gamer’s Nexus has approved of a few lately, and power supply, probably Corsair again tbh

So, I've been my mates all weekend for a mini LAN and took my PC with me. Just got home and set it back up again and it wouldn't boot, just kept turning itself off after like 8-10 seconds. I tried it about 10 times and was like, wtf. Anyway, the issue was during transport the power cable to the CPU cooler came unplugged and therefore the CPU was overheating and turning itself off. Reckon i've done any damage to the CPU by trying to turn it back on so often? Or do you reckon the auto shutdown has totally prevented any damage?

It's probably fine if it's been shutting itself down, is it showing any error codes on the motherboard when you try to boot up?
