So, I’ve just got an LG B9 and I’m having all sorts of issues.

1. Can’t set 2k120hz or even 1080/120. Max refresh rate in Nvidia control panel is 60hz. I would assume it’s not a HDMI2.0 cable, but it can do 4K HDR.

2. I’m guessing the above is the reason, but when setting Assetto Corsa to 2k120 it just sits in the top left corner and the display stays at 4k60 after flicking to black for a sec.

3. HDR disables when playing Assetto and only re-enables when I change volume and the volume bar comes up.

4. Playing 4k HDR files in the film and TV app freezes it immediately, VLC glitches occasionally. But the photos app plays it just fine.

Anyone got any ideas?

FIXED IT!

1. Has to be the one under PC resolutions. Both 2k120 and 1k120 work fine.
2. Can't fix that. Don't know why. But if you set the resolution for windows as a whole first then do it in Assetto it obviously then works.
3. HDR works in all resolutions now, can’t remember what I tweaked lol
4. Turns out the 'process video to improve quality' slider in windows settings being off doesn't improve performance, it stops it using the card. Works fine now.

Assetto Corsa, at night, at Le Mans, in M8 GTE, in HDR, at 120hz, is AMAZING. Very happy!

PCs hardware is worth f**k all once it's used unless you're dealing with high end stuff so it's well worth buying a used setup if you're starting from scratch.
Whilst true, 90% of people selling their systems expect to recover nearly all of their monies so advertise and silly high prices.

I paid £300 for my PC

Ryzen 5 2600
R9 390 TriX
B350 Tomahawk
ThermalTake 4 fan case
Uphere 120mm Standoff CPU cooler
1x120GB SSD & 1TB HDD
Corsair 450w PSU
16GB (2x8GB DDR4)

Since then I've replaced the PSU with a CoolerMaster 850w PSU because the 390 draws 175w on load which was another £40 and stuck 3 Samsung EVO 1TB SSD's and a 500GB SSD in it

Keep your eyes open and take your time and you'll find bargains. I have spent another £300 on peripherals though. It will run R6, COD, Tarkov at 144 constant with ease, you don't need to spend thousands unless you're a complete novice and want warranties on s**t.

Wouldn't you be better with an ultrawide 1080P as opposed to 2 16 x 9 ones? Long gaming sessions having to look either left or right would give me a creek in the neck.

Yeah I was looking into a 32" Ultrawide but I've just bought a house and it needs a new kitchen, bathroom, loft and everything decorating so money is being ploughed elsewhere

When buying 2nd hand one thing to bare in mind is how far you can take the system. You buy a 3rd or 4th gen i7 for cheap and you'll end up having to buy new motherboard, CPU and RAM when you wanna upgrade.

I understand the ultra wide thing, changing the FOV to see just as much means you lose a lot of detail in the distance.

I wouldn’t personally go for a 1080 ultra wide, it would have to be 1440.

I’m currently looking at normal 1440p monitors. I should be able to get away with that using my 1070.

You don't want to look left and right but want an ultrawide? That makes no sense. Better just changing your FOV. Less physical area to scan
In COD for example I am centred on my screen. So head is straight on my shoulders. With a 2 monitor setup you will not be sitting centred so next will become strained.

When one is focussing 100% on one screen to the side they will get a sore neck. Its simple ergonomics. Also, I don't need to turn my head using the UW as I sit centred. (y)

I wouldn't personally go 1080 UW either, just that the gentleman above would have to go up a GPU in order to achieve UW @ 1440P.

I just angle my chair? Rather than tilt your neck😂

I have my keyboard on the opposite angle too

I'm used to it because this is how I have it at work too. Primary monitor on the right and then whatever else like discord on the left

Oh lol I thought you meant cod stretched over 2 screens and you would be scanning both of them. Yeah when I used to have two monitors I had one sitting right in front of me straight-on as my primary and the second was off to one side

Only a cretin would stretch a game over 2 screens😂
Tell you what though - back in late March, numb-nuts here thought he could work from home using his own 27" monitor - and that I wouldn't really require all three monitors from work.

How wrong was I! I'd dread to think of the amount of time wasted in minimising/maximising screens, dragging windows about the place, etc, over the last few months. I thought multiple screens was a bit of a 'luxury' at work - but nope, it's a necessity. :)

Work is 1 thing, gaming is another. The only time multiple screens work when gaming is on racing games, and ideally you want 3 of 'em.

Yeah - even with fairly thick bevels at the edge of the screens, somehow your eyes see past those to appreciate the three-screen view. I don't spend enough time on racing games to justify the trio, unfortunately.

Yeah definitely way more productive. I've only got one monitor at work connected to a laptop, but I still split the screen over the two. It's not great because of how small the laptop screen is compared to the monitor but still better than only using one.

That's normally how I worked from home, but this lockdown forced my hand.

Laptop now lives in the cupboard under the desk, plugged into two monitors + mouse and keyboard so it replicates my old work setup. Feels much better having the two screens next to each other.

What size are your 1440 monitors?

By the time you filter by 144hz and freesync, it’s seems there’s a handful of 27“ but mainly 30+” with more than half being curved.

A 32” screen less than 32” away from your face just sounds counterintuitive?

I've got the old Asus ROG Swift (27") and I think it's probably the sweet spot for size. Physically bigger and it's a bit overwhelming that close to your face, you definitely notice the difference in resolution going to 4K at that size, but you end up needing screen scaling enabled to read things in Windows which some games then get conflicts with

Hi all,

Hope you can give me some advice as Reddit just seems to suggest I need to spend hundreds on a graphics card!

I've bought a Ryzen 5 3600, was thinking of pairing it a GTX 1050 TI, 16GB ram and a B450 motherboard.

I don't go for top games as have Xbox & PS4 but could be tempted, current PC is about 7 years old, AMD FX6300 XFX with AMD Radeon HD 7870 so I expect the above to be ok?

Thanks
Keith

You'll need to spend hundreds on a graphics card mate.

I personally don't think a 1050Ti cuts it these days and would also be looking for 6GB of memory as a minimum too. Especially if you want to play modern games at decent resolutions and fidelity above 1080p. I guess it depends how much you are willing to sacrifice in terms of quality and resolution for bank balance. [emoji106]
