The Power PC Thread [f*ck off consoles]

Will certainly do the job. Although, I've heard so many complaints with Corsair PSU's. Rich on here had massive problems with his as well and ended up getting a different one. I'd highly recommend any PSU from XFX, Antec or EVGA personally.

Moi??

Mine whined like a Biatch and got sent back. Swapped for the Antec and never had a problem.

Appeared to be an issue with the Corsair gaming series range. In fact Corsair werent that confident in offering me one of the "same" they offered me one of their higher ranged full modular ones as a swap.

Still went with the antec though!

I've had a Corsair fail before and it didn't really make financial sense to pay to return it to them in the Netherlands so bought a Coolermaster instead. I must admit though I've got a Corsair 1200W in the current build and that's been faultless (touch wood)

Had a Corsair AX750 that died on me. Corsair warranty is very good though. They told me to just send the unit back and they replaced it with a new unit + cables etc.

But the cheaper units tend to be poo, especially ones that are branded as "Gaming PSU's".

Dunno why your not going with that XFX one i linked a few posts back, its a really good Seasonic unit. Seasonic make alot of oem psu's that other companies rebadge with their names.

I just purchased the 7990 + PSU combo, 16gb of Vengence RAM and some SP120 fans from Scan :)

Still have a basket on OC with all the watercooling bits, Mobo etc..Just cannot decide on which case to go with Really want to go with the 750d but I fear a 360mm rad+ dual bay res (yes im going Bay res) will "fit". Plus I need space for a 1tb HD which I dont know where I would mount in the 750D as I was also going to mount a 240mm rad in the bottom where the HDD trays will go.

Grrrrr

I didn't see the other unit tbh and at 80quid I had maxed my current budget so it seemed the cheapest with all the cables I needed most others I looked at only seemed to have one pci express power cable which is no good for my 7950 or for when I double it

http://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-fc7990-acetal-nickel-incl-backplate.html

Looks like some come with backplate on the original version.

On the SE it says this in the description: Block is mounted with enclosed M3x4 DIN7985 and M3x6 DIN7991 screws allowing for reinstallation of factory provided backplate.

So I presume it depends on whether or not you buy a card that comes with a backplate or not, no idea if they all do.

Alternatively, XSPC do one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-226-XS

Though I've no idea if it's compatible with the waterblock, you'd presume so as it's all the original mounting locations.

Seems like I can use the backplate that comes with it..

So should be alright with the SE

EDit

ps what compression fittings are you using here??

Just installed my test loop for now, waiting on other cables and stuff so gonna give it a proper go on the weekend, I'll get a photo up now

Worst photo ever:

Waiting on more bitfenix cables, led lighting, need 1 more fan to replace the crap stock fan (the ones on radiators are all Gentle Typhoons).

Just need to overclock it now, without overclock the CPU is sat @ 25c, my ambient temp!

They're all EK fittings, mixture of normal, 45 degree and 90 degree ones.

I have the older (and imo nicer looking versions) of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-363-EK&groupid=962&catid=1529&subcat=2582

If you need any silver/titanium coloured (EK ones also) let me know - they were all originally that colour until I replaced them all for black ones, so I have LOTS spare (and can do them for a nice price)!

Got my DEMCiflex dust filter set through for the case today, they really are good quality, and means I should have a nice dust-free case!

Does the 540 not come with filters then? If not then your looking close to £200 for the case and filters then :S.

My days of spending £££££ on cases is well over. I cringe when i think back to spending nigh on £500 for a Mountain Mods case direct from MM themselves.

Comes with a front filter yeah but that's only for the 360 rad. I figured I wanted it as dust-free as possible, so just bought the pack, they're expensive but look like they'll do the job nicely, and all fit perfectly.

Last pic from me, all finished now (for now, maybe a 290X when theyre out):

Nice to see another one done neatly. I stopped counting costs a few years back, easily over £5000 in total.

Are they gentle typhoons at the top by the way? FYI, its not difficult to remove the fans if you wanted to spray them red, here are my black ones I did:

Gareth how much sleeving did you buy from mdfc (or whatever it was)

I have to the tools so just want to get all the sleeving and heatshrink but no idea how much to buy

  Bumder With A Buffer
I bought the sleeve kit when doing the system the first time around, but in addition to that ended up buying more of the 'small' sleeve as that tends to be what you use the most of.

Cheers yeah just unsure how many meters of need. Fcuk it il just order loads!

Final question....you t a bitspower filler cap into your system didnt you? Do the bitspower reservoirs have 2 "ins" at the top then?

Edit...yes just a screw on the GT's addicted. I took one apart yesterday

I pulled the sticker up on the back and took the circlip off, the blades then come clean off.

My old reservoir was a custom one from America from Sidewinder computers ( iandh Stealth I think it was called ), not sure about the Bitspower ones but with a number of reservoirs you can buy mutli port tops and bottoms now.

Right ive got about 2 hours to make my mind up what to do with my cooling options.

Currently have the idea of a 360mm Rad up the top to cool the CPU and GPU. Will this be enough? I could add another 240mm Rad in the front of the case but then unsure what "order" to pipe the loop in...and also want it to look tidy I suppose. Gone with a CROSSFLOW rad up the top to aid silly tube lengths and to make it easier.

For a 7990 or a different card?

Single card I'd say 360+140mm for decent temps (GPU+CPU), if it's a 7990 expect basically dual GPU temps, so I'd go 240mm for sure.

If you need to "pipe" it in, you will need 2 extra fittings (for the radiator), and bit more tubing. I'd also recommend picking up some angled fittings - you never know when they may come in handy!

As above, running CPU/Mobo/GPU on 360+240, with GT's on the rads, but very low rpm for silence, and I'm idling ~36c for cpu (@4.6Ghz), and GPU around the same.

  Bumder With A Buffer
Yeah 7990. Sod it im getting one of those as well. I have a load of angled fittings and tubing coming from WC PC. They were cheaper and had the colour fittings I wanted in stock.

Can't decide on an "order" though. Most people go Res -> pump -> cpu -> radiator -> GPU -> radiator #2 -> res dont they?

  FF 182
Shortest route possible is best mate. Aslong as it goes Res > Pump it doesn't matter one bit what comes next. A lot of people think its best to have the radiator before the cpu or gpu block, but it doesnt. After a while the temps will level out no matter where the radiator is in the loop. However, better flow = better temps, and better flow is gained by having the shortest tubing route.

Doesn't matter too much, as long as the res is before the pump as above. At current I am: Res -> Pump -> 240 -> CPU -> Mobo -> GPU -> 360 - >Res

In all honesty it makes no difference realistically, so just go where the loop is the cleanest/shorest, as said anyway, the temps will even out so it makes very little difference (1-2c max).

I realise after writing this, I've pretty much copied what Vinnie put =D

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
Mine is:

Res > Pump > MB > CPU > RAM > 480 > Res

&

Res > Pump > GPU > GPU > 480 > Res

As said, as long as you go Res > Pump and keep it as short as possible and the pump as low down in the loop as you can get you shouldn't have any issues.

Wow I never expected such a big pc community on here and I love it xD

Mines no huge powerhouse
But I run inside an original nzxt phantom

An xfx 7950 3gb also ocd at 7970 clocks
Corsair dominator ram only 8gb atm
An Asus sabertooth p67 mobo
Ocz vertex ssd and standard 1tb HDD
1kw ocz PSU

With a triple eyefinity setup
2 ambx lighting and speaker kits
A shitty keyboard
Rat 9 cyborg mouse
And the 5.1 Razer chimera

Does the job haha

Sounds good mate

This thread definitely needs more pics! :approve:

290X info released today, smacks up 780's and Titan's in various benchmarks, for MUCH less in price.

Tempted to pick one up, problem is I don't see anywhere with waterblocks in stock atm :(.

OcUK sold out pretty much from their preorders, and waiting on Scan to get the MSI in stock - it's the only one I'd want (assuming it has SK Hynix memory), as it's favourable for watercooling and warranty.
