Thinking of buying....

  Jap Box
Hi,

I know someone selling a 51 plate clio on the cheap, it however needs some work done to it. List is below:

1 new renault alloy
New front drivers side seat fitted (got seat for it)
4 new disks and pads
Sunroof leaks
Front right subframe is bent
2 new back seatbelts
New headliner (gone mouldy because of sunroof)

Price is £350, how much do you think it will cost to repair? Would it be worth it, or shouldn't it be touched?

The subframe would put me off, sure the rest would be pretty easy/inexpensive to fix.

I son't think the sub frame will be easy to change.

Yeah that's what also put me off, without being able to jack it up at the time I also don't know if anything else has bent in the process.

He crashed it into a curb on front right wheel, alloy was 100% broken, subframe was damaged and the drivers seat airbag went off. (Hence the new seat)

I wouldn't bother TBH, sounds more trouble than it's worth.

Ok, thanks :)

I think you will be hard pushed finding someone to buy that, sounds like its had a hard life

It's been stationary for the past 12 months because of the problems, has 80,000 miles of the clock. Agreed it's not in the best of states, but at £350 I thought it might be worth repairing.

The car has also been under a cover for 12 months, so no water has actually got into the sunroof at this time.

Anymore opinions on this? Can get it for £250 now, only thing to cause problems would be the subframe.

If its mashed an alloy by fitting a curb, chances are the strut will be bent, and the steering rack.

My car even had the radiator punctured from a similar accident.

Where is it? I'll buy it if its close? Subframes not hard to do, wouldn't fancy paying someone else to do it though

Subframe isn't a difficult job to do.

What spec/engine size is it?

Thanks for that, its a 1.2, Dynamique I believe.

Had the rest checked and nothing else is actually bent, just the subframe.

West Wales it's at.

You'll also need to reset the airbag computer, or buy a new one.

Thanks for this info, ill get that checked out.

I have no idea if it needs an airbag computer, guy selling it seems to think all it needs is it reset, which is a simple thing to do.

Things the car needs done are in original post.

Ohh, so it doesn't have to be done? Or I assume to pass it's MOT it will need it?

It doesn't have to be done no. But the airbag light will always be on and if you have an accident the airbag won't go off.

Its not an MOT fail, but its an advisory iirc.

Ok, does anyone know a rough price on the new airbag computer?

Think ill take the punt on this, going to have another look at it on the weekend. Had a quote for front subframe £68 inc delivery, and the renault alloy for £80 delivered :)

  Jap Box
Could probably buy it and break it for spares and make more than that.

Was also thinking that, mate got over £100 for his '98 astra interior. Don't think id want to break it though, be nicer to get it back on the road :)

I paid £800 for a 52 Extreme with 48k on it, had a front end bump but no airbag damage. Put £300 into it inc MOT and sold it for £2k no worries so id say go for it.

Plus, if you buy it then realise its more hassle, ebay it and you'll make a killing, put non runer or spares/repairs and people buy anything trust me

Has it been written off at all? I.e. declared Cat D or C?

Nope, has been classed as SORN for the past 12months due to the MOT expiring. Im not sure if it is classed as written off, because its still driveable I believe.

Yeah ill view it again this weekend, I thought it should go for over £800 on ebay just as spares as the body is in good condition except for one dent in the bonnet.
