Re: Tim's R26 Banana Boost Bus
Turbo is fucked
Turbo is fucked
Shitter mate. What's went wrong with it?
I'll either get a hybrid turbo and forged rods or sell it.
It's due a cambelt in December as well so I'm not sure if I want to spend the money on it.
I fancy something V8 and rear wheel drive like a Corvette next.
What turbo does the R26 take? My Focus RS takes a Garrett GT25 and im still on the original. A replacement is only £370 so it may not be as expensive as you think.
Fred's got 2 spare heads if you wanted to sort engine plus seen cheap turbos on eBay. Bummer when they go, Paul clocked low compression on mine when I needed a new engine, that feeling, Erggh.
Hi if you're getting rid btw x
Best avoid buying any liquid yellow R26's from car dealers for the next few months then lol
To swap the rods you have to remove the timing belt... So not as much as you may think for the whole job?
LOL at sell it, avoid all LY's being sold at Dealerships in the coming months.
guess you'll need to change your avatar / car info
Get hold of a 2nd hand standard turbo, stick that on and carry on as you are? Seems the best bet.
gutted to hear about the turbo mate, hybrid should sort that out though.
or your only other option is to break it and sell me some bits
Sorry to hear that man
What's caused the f*cked rods though?
Serves you right for sticking your willy in the compressor wheel. Seriously though that sucks. If it drives and pulls fine then keep driving it till it doesnt, just remember to keep the AA membership topped up.
Is it a Garrett unit because we have a guy on the RSOC who works for Garrett and he sells them at trade price direct to us and it works out so much cheaper.
Gutted Tim. :dapprove:
Ignore the floppy American crap, go hybrid/forged.
Or just buy Paul's .R?
Sorry to hear this Tim mate, but as you've said - opportunities (either American v8 or bigger turbo) now abound.
Thats what I consoled myself with when my diff went.
Is the SC pool night on for the 1st still, I fly back the Sunday so will come along if it's still on.
Sorry to hear this Tim but it has lived in the fast lane since you had it. Hope you get it sorted or you get the Corvette you've been talking about for years.
Get the Vette Tim !
i'd recomp test it a few times to be sure, and do a leakdown to check rings before making a decision.
if bottom end is healthy, as Whiteley says, slap a second hand turbo on it for cheap option or hybrid it.

Is it quite a common issue then? As i'm pretty much set on an R26 (going to view one this week in fact) - slightly worried now!
