Tips for changing engine mounts.

  Clio 182
I'm uprating my my 182 mounts to KTec ones, I'm changing all 3.
Anyone got any tips or starting points?
Do I jack the engine up a bit etc??
Just building a car for racing and never done a Renault before so I'll be asking for all sorts of advice I'm afraid.

  Whichever has fuel
Lump of wood and a trolley jack to lift the engine a bit. (On the sump)

Make sure you un-clip the fuel lines (by the top mount) to avoid snapping any clips.

Other than that, normal tool kit.

Gearbox mount is fiddly but nothing more.

Dogbone mount is a piece of cake.

The gearbox mount may feel like it's never going to come out but just keep wiggling it it will come out eventually, also when bolting the new gearbox mount in I stuck the nut to my finger with some silicone so I could get it under the mount bracket without dropping it.

I was using aftermarket K-Tec/Vibratechnics mounts so they went in easy, it's getting the oem ones out that was a pain in the arse.

Are you replacing them with new oem mounts?

I'm using the KTec 3 pack upgrade kit.
Just seen that I get 5% off, but late for that!

Did you find much difference Dave?

Loads mate, reduced drivetrain movement means instant power delivery, loads of people moan about extra vibration but I didn't get any and everything is uprated and polybushed on mine, if you do get any extra vibration it's only at idle.

Is that a stock or Powerflex item?

The Dogbone mount is something I am looking to change in mine. In a previous 1.4 it made a massive difference but the mount that came off was shot so anything would have been an improvement!

I just replaced the dogbone on my Cup with an Evol one with yellow bushes. All other mounts are standard and in good shape. The vibrations at idle and up to about 3000rpm make the car harsh to drive but all driveline shunt has been eliminated

Thats good to know, have been looking into the uprated Powerflex dogbone mount as well. Have done it in my previous car with very good results (Seat Leon 1.8 20VT), so should be a no brainer. I needed to raise the idle a bit to avoid vibrations on tickover. Is that something that can be done on a Clio 2 RS?

You've overtightened it. It only needs nipping up, it shouldn't vibrate.

OP - When you do the gearbox mount, I tapped mine down over the gearbox spindle using a socket.

So I don't tighten them up as tight as possible?

Also shall I undo all three mounts at the same time to change them or one at a time?

Do them one at a time.

If fitting an evol dogbone follow this

With the mount in hand, the arrow sticker on the bar must be positioned towards the front of the vehicle & pointing up.
For best results, do not over tighten the mount bolts, treat them as if you are tightening a sump plug. Tighten using a socket & ratchet as tight as possible by hand plus a little (do not use an air gun). Over tightening will result in the mount vibrating unnecessarily.

I've got the three mount kit from K-Tec and there are no marks on the dog bone.

It's the dash buzzing/vibrating and just feels tight.
Can feel the exhaust shake when starting but manifold is well clear.
