tips on replacing 5th gear end cap

Has anyone replaced the black cap that goes on the gearbox?

From what i can see its only 3 bolts holding it on so it looks easy enough but i cant work out if it will be easier to remove it from underneath the car or go through the wheel arch?

Also i see the new cap comes with a replacement seal but did you use any extra sealant on it to stop it leaking?

It's a while since i did mine but,
Through the wheel arch, it takes a bit of wiggling to get it out but isn't difficult, the seal is just a big O ring stick it in place with a bit little silicone ( it just hold it in place while you get the end cap position and torqued up ), no need for any other sealant.

Haha That shouldn’t be a problem it’s pretty much drains itself already
