Car  Family Bus
:) Currently got a twin magnex exhaust on my 172, is a gorgeous lookin exhaust but barely audible! Went down to exhaustsuk in sheffield yesterday, and they said the only thing to do without changin the whole thing is to de cat it,would be louder and more performance too, however only thing puttin me off is the whole mot thing!! Any advice? ?

hmmm i dunno shotgun
its only a couple of bolts in and out isnt it? when it comes up to your MOT time just take it out and put the cat back in i think its literally 4 bolts
could be wrong tho

Do it!!! I've got the Magnex Slash Cut 3.5" wiv a GDI De-Cat and it makes a Nice Rasp and if you haven't already get a decent IK and it'll be sounding very nice!!!

Phil1998 is right, Simple 4 Bolts n Clip and its off, Go for it Matey, every1 makes itsound like a Hoooge project to swap the De-Cat to Cat when its really not!!!

I know it's a bit boring, but don't forget the legal implications of a decat. No matter what people tell you, they are an insurance voider with 99% of companies. Also, when I had my 182, I took the decat off after a week, so boomy at about 80mph.

You guys have obviously never fitted a cat' to a 172. You're talking 2-3 hours if it's your first go. It's an absolute ball ache of a job.

If you have acces to a ramp and an extra pair of hands to stand over your engine bay on top of the ramp while your underneath working then it'll take you longer to unplug the twin lambds than it will to change the cat

5000 miles later and i still got no warning light on mine......hit and miss i guess!

Unplug the second lambda job done no lights, did it on my old 172 and had no issues whatsoever. I'd decat but as said it's not really a 5 minute job to swap unless you have the hands of an 8 year old. A 182 takes 2 minutes but on a 172 the manifold to cat flange is behind the subframe and a right ballache to get at.

SPORTS CAT I got one from exhaust uk in sheffield there on of the best around cost £185 fitted made mine sound awsone!!!
+ perfomance

remove and fit back for mot liberates so much more power and sounds alot better and provides flame outs and bangs on acceleration and down changes

2 to 3 hours !!

Could a done it with my teeth quicker than that the first time we did it.

A hour tops.

Its not a hard job, just a back breaking one.

Try it with rounded manifold to cat' bolt heads. That's caused by people doing it with their teeth ;)
