Too many cables to put HU back in

  Ph1

Got a bit of a problem putting the head unit back into the dash cos the RCA lead conectors stick out too far at the back there hitting against the heater box !!

theres so little room at the back of the head unit.

Is there some sort of adaptor that i can use to plug in the RCA cables so that i can put the head unit back in at both sides ?? or are my leads too big for the job ??

There Caliber ones

Are there any tips on how or where to tuck the cables behind the head unit cos we had problems just changing the head unit over as a straight swap for the original one !!

Oh yeah its a mk1 172

Cheers

Can you not reach up behind the passenger side of the dash from the footwell and pull them out of the way?

Thinking about it i seem to remember i had to use some string when fitting my HU in the Cup.

Mat.

be prepared to slice your fingers up, but as matt says, you have to relocate most of the cabling into the little void in the passenger side of the slot

it is possible, i managed to get the ISO loom, 3 sets of RCA cables, cd changer cable and a remote cable in there, took a lot of work, plenty of trial and error, but it can be done

i pulled off the panel above the hu,then pulled the cables over the top of the hu as i pushed it in. ive got a mk2 phase 2 so i dont know if its the same

as mat said, it might be easier.

I had to reach up the side to try to get it all fitting. also at the back in the middle there is an extra support for the original radio, its got a hole in middle. i also had to trim that down a little, and that WAS A BI%CH to do!

What do you reckon about the RCA leads though ?? My mate that fitted them reckons there bent to the limit against the heater box. One of the problems the HU wont go back in

The plugs stick out the back of the HU about a inch and a half before the flex of the cables start. Is it ok to have the leads bending like this ??

does the rcas plug strait into the back of the hu???

iy might be an idea to see if you can get some 90 degree plugs for the rcas

Take the dash top off, its easy as after that, only takes a few mins to get the top of the dash off, guides on the cliosport homepage.
