Took my Clio and Ferrari out to the Nurburgring this weekend

No they deliver power very smoothly and progressively. which is a shame as I quite like a big boost spike and a kick up the ass kinda power delivery!

Felt very nimble and the body control was superb. Very impressive and fast on track. Terribly hard ride on the road with the G-attack supsension. Standard ones are nicer. Mine also had a NASTY and snatchy HKS triple plate clutch... so as a roadcar it was no fun to pootle about in!

Has ALOT of grip in the dry on track... ABSOLUTELY NONE in the wet!!! suspect suspension was just too hard. I was doing Charity rides at Castle combe once and it started to rain. The car was a NIGHTMARE! I was going sooo slowly it was embarrasing! I turned in and it would understeer... if I breathed on the throttle it would oversteer!

I came into swap passengers and my mate said whats the problem with car? why am I going so slowly? I said that it was as fast as I could make it go!!! he laughed and took piss out of me... I threw him the keys. Next lap that stunning blue jap 'weapon' was overtaken by a STANDARD H reg Ford Fiesta XR2i!!!!! it was THAT bad!

In the dry it went around combe in 1.16... thats pretty quick for a road car.

Lol! Sounds like a right day & night car! In the right circumstances - an absolute weapon, in bad weather or pootling around town - an absolute pig to drive!

At least it's 'right' in its natural environment. I've only even been a passenger once in a modded R33. It felt like a very capable car - actually felt smaller from the inside looking out, somehow?

That 996 is stunning, I borrowed my old boss's 996 c4s one weekend... what a car that is!!!

I was lucky enough to meet Ricky Hatton on a night out with my old company...

Can we now be best friends that we share the same interests!!??

I love your Ferrari, I remember the Cossie from Redline, not a lover of the Jap Crap but that PORSCHE!!

Have you ever been down to Romans on the a217? If you ever go down there or you're at a track day soon let us all know... we'll come down to have a look at your motors!

Not often you get people with nice cars actually have a passion for them... 1 day I'll be there!

cool photo mate!!!! Ricky is such a nice guy huh! Met him a few times. Last time was in Ibiza last year. I took some clients out there and he was staying in our hotel. I spotted him at bar and went for a chat. We got on well and had few beers and stuff. I said to him that I had a big table booked at the Blue Marlin and did he want to join us as it freaking cool in there etc etc...
I thought nothing of it and didn't mention it to anyone and took my clients down there. Halfway through lunch in walks Ricky with some mates. My Clients all recognize him... And then he walks straight over to me says hello Lee, shakes my hand and starts chatting away and joined us for afternoon!
My clients thought I was a proper legend! Ricky made me look gooood that day! We exchanged mobile numbers at end :)

TOTALLY agree!

I had a standardish R33 GTR and it used to do exactly that. shrink around you as you drove it.... then you get out and see what a BIG car it was!

Took my mum and dad to a wedding in it once... and I remember doing HUGE speed on the M6 tollroad on way back with parents snoring away blissfully!

Ricky was a top bloke!

I think I was in Floridita in London. He had loads of people on a table... They said we couldn't have a picture but then he stood up told them to f**k off and had a drink with us!

sounded AMAZING!

SMELT awful after about 10 mins!

Supercars dont do hill starts in traffic very well... so going up the many steep ramps was a NIGHTMARE....

Burnt clutch smell is NASTY!

Didn't that Cossie have the wrc spoiler on it?

it originally had the standard 'whale tail'

Both cars used to have that livery...

after the Escort was written off at the Gumball it was rebuilt and the colours altered and as you said a WRC spoiler was fitted. I decided to rebuild, and repaint the Sierra to match.

We HAD sooooooooooo much fun racing them around the Country over the years. Happy memories!

Spoiler story.... LITERALLY!!!
Start of Rally...
107-0715_IMG.jpg

Morning of crash
108-0803_IMG.jpg

If you look carefully... we started the Rally with the upper spoiler BUT we took the upper spolier on day 3 of the Gumball. Basically we had been having a few tear ups with the Yellow Enzo and having great fun. However the Escort would only really do a round 194-195mph with the upper spoiler on. The roads from Casablanca down to Marakesh were all brand new and straight and flat AND the king of Morroco had given us permission to go as fast as we liked! IT WAS MENTAL!

We took spoiler off as we wanted to do 200mph+... sadly the roads the next day were not as nice, and we pushed too hard and either had a mechanical problem OR a loss of rear downforce due to no upper spoiler combined with driver error and too much speed.... AND we crashed. Fortunately only I was hurt and no innocent bystanders. That would have been REALLY tragic and very unfair... . I learnt an awful lot that day and changed how I look at everything really...

Too tough! and I wouldnt wanna hurt any of their feelings by choosing one ;)

I would say though for what it can do and for what it costs and for making me smile. The Clio is a STAGGERINGLY good car!

Interesting that even though you cut about in cars i can only victory w**k over the Clio still holds a place among the best.

I have to admit, my 182 does get attention on the road (namely from other car enthusiasts) its not exactly a Supercar slit wagon unfortunatley

The admiration you have for the Clio speaks Volumes but then again, people who test supercars everyday evo ect... rave about it.

There's obviously something about raw fun. Like a modern 205!

Amazing thread, I only just signed up to look for something else but this caught my eye. I recognise your username from PassionFord. I saw your Ferrari at the Ring a fair amount at the weekend, was a lovely weekend!

Wasnt that L700NY plate on an F355 that crashed during the Gumball in 2004?

How much was your fuel bill?!

Not sure. sorry... dont wanna sound like a complete penis but its not something I think about really!

BUT people do ask it alot!!!! its weird! the fuel costs on running supercars or highly modded Fords or jap stuff is TOTALLY irrelevant.... sadly you always have a £5k bill waiting for you most months if you have a few nice cars... I even spent £4k getting my clio ready for the ring!!!!

BUT If you start adding up costs on cars it gets scary and spoils the fun a bit, so I stopped looking or thinking about it whenever possible! and talking about money is for c***s! so thats the last I will ever say on the matter!

lifes is sooooo short... enjoy it to the max is my moto! apart from debt... I dont do debt!

I just received some an email from frozen speed with some pics that I bought from them on sunday. will post up when they are uploaded
