topping oil up at 5300 miles...

ive just given the car a wee check up before i do a 300 mile journey today, the oil is down on the dipstick to about 3/4s, im going to stop off at Halfords to give it a quick dose of oil. What grade should I use? I dont have the handbook on me so cant refer to that, is it 10W-40 semi-synth? Will it be ok to stick any brand in until the 6000 mile point comes up and I do a full change?

Get any good 10W40 semi-synth, summat like Magnatec is fine.

If your going to change the oil at 6k anyway dont even bother topping it up just now.....

Renault oil consumption spec is 1 litre to 1000km, which is about 625miles

Some engine do some dont mines never burnt any oil in 32k miles some burn it like mad not a huge concern so long as its always above the minimum.
