Ok, I "was" gonna get a new Cup, even got the Rallye for sale, but I have been side-tracked and gone all Impreza (again) so do I get a Clio or a nice RB5 Ive seen?!

I know the Cup will be newer, cheaper to run, better on fuel, but... :D

Opinions?!

When I say afford I dont mean to insinuate that you are poor but could you manage to put the money to better use?

When I was first thinking of buying my Cup I was going to sell it after about 6-12 months and get an Impreza but after reading about, and now driving one, Im not in as much of a hurry.

Yes I know an RB5 is going to be faster but youd be surprise how much fun these little Clios can be.

I had the same dilemma not long ago. I like Imprezas and considered an RB5, but the age/mileage/warranty thing made me think again.

Im a hot hatch fan, so sticking to my roots I went for the Cup and Im glad I did. Try one, you might like it...

Have already been for a thrash in a Cup and I know how great they are, but I may just get an Impreza for a while, just so Ive had one, then get a Cup...

The RB5 is superb though!

4 door...

Basically an STi shell (stronger), with a UK spec engine and a few other tweaks, which make them great!

I was the same when I bought my GT turbo. I knew it would be full of hassles but I thought it would be rude not to. Sold it now but had a year of unbelievable fun!:D

screw the scoob..............if your going to go along the Jap AWD route, dont pick the bottom car (bar the horrid GTI-R), skip straight to the evo.

The RB5 looks so boring, doesnt it come in grey? Anyway theyre all ugly..

I presume Ben picks the EVO as it doesnt understeer..of which id agree..but still...theyre all ugly, apart from the newest one.

As Nick says running costs are a bit silly, my mate has one of these things at gets it serviced every 10k.

The Cup is good looking, its rare, fast and handles well and all for 12k, its a no brainer for me pal!

i picked the EVO cause i hate the pig slow scoob, handling......um.....do the designers work on that?

the evo is jsut far more technically advanced, the scoob aint bad, but i would in no way buy one.

Depends on Richs age. Before i had my 172 i had a quote on a UK Scoob and it was £1000 and the 172 was £200 less. This was last year when i was 23 BTW.

dunno.....is it possible to drive one slow though? lol

mighty tempting to just use a teeny bit more throttle than you should.

My mate had a modded VI and I loved it, but running costs in an Evo are waaay more than a UK spec Impreza.

I am 27 with a clean licence and 10 years NCB so insurance is not an issue...

Actually not much more for an Impreza than my Rallye?!

If you can afford to run the Impreza, get the Impreza. Running costs are all that are stopping me having an STi (or an Evo of course).

Much as I love the Cups and all fast Renaults, the RB5 would be my choice - according to the Evo writers, its the best of the best imprezas that you can buy, plus its well rare. So Id do it! You can always buy a second hand cup in a couple of years when they are a bit cheaper! ;)

Scooby... Itll still be alive whilst the Renault will actually be scraping along the floor with all the pieces youve put in the boot after they fell off.

Rich for the price of a cup you could get a EVO 7, and still have money left over for insurance etc.......
Not when I can get a new Cup for about £10,300 from my mate!

Rich what the hell are you doing selling the rallye so quickly? I thought you loved it??
Its great, but I only ever got it as a "stop gap" after Id bought my house and I know Ive only had it 7 months, but its time.

yeah, deffo the car for me i think.... i need an engine with REAL tuning potential, not this air filter + exhaust bollox.

Baggsy first passenger ride if u get one!

Hmm - didnt find any Scoob that much fun too drive yet - very capable and quick. Ive loved them since the early 90s when still unknown. Always said I would own one - now after a lot of driving one on and off for a year I cant see the fuss. No really that fast - bloody expensive to tune and ridiculous running costs. You have to be doing stupid speeds to have fun! If I had the money for a RB5 and to run it I would get either a Escort Cossie (330bhp or so) or a Evo 5. Scoobs are Saxo common now and I see 2 different RB5s a week. I see more than 2 Scoob turbos a day.

Anyway if you can afford it and you want it - ignore everything I have just typed and go and get it!! You can buy a cheap cup in a year and start having fun again - and afford to drive it places!;)

I now have too many bills to afford something like that and never did it when younger either.

Rich, u thought about a Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo LE? Do some research, theyre mint cars, one was running 13.7 at York virtually standard...

My Cousin went from a MY00 Scoob 218bhp (didnt feel fast after 10mins) to a RX7. I think the RX7 was £9k - being RWD has less transmission losses. It has 220bhp as std but he has modded it. I think his target is 300bhp for the year. the engine (1.3 Rotary) needs rebuilt every 60-80k and its costs 2k I think. Great handling car too - more fun than the scoob but hard going in the wet with RWD. MPG aint great tho!!

Running costs are what it comes down to really as for the price of a cup you can buy a lot of second hand car!! and Scoobs are sooo cheap as there are loads of em!
