Trying to install Alpine Headunit in 197

  Clio 197 R27 No. 395
Hey,
I have a 197 r27 and yesterday i tried removing the headuinit and replacing it with an alpine iva-d106r. I found that there are 3 cables going into the back of the current headunit but having looked at the connections on the alpine there are only 2, with the smaller yellow connection with nowhere to go. I tried plugging it in without the yellow connection but i could not get power to the new headunit.
Could anyone help me with this, as i have had a look round and cant find any information on it!
Thanks,
Chris

The yellow one should be the connection for the stalk controller mate. the other two are the iso conector, one does power and one does speakers.

going by the pic the black connector is for power and the brown is speakers. make sure you aint got them the wrong way round

You shouldnt be able to get them mixed up as the plastic release pins on top are offset differently.

On the power Block make sure the red, yellow and black wires are connected to something on each side when its plugged in. The car has to be switch on too (just in case you didn't know)

Yeah i checked this it seems that they are connected on each side! and as you said, they cannot be mixed up as they are both different.

No nothing comes on atall, this is what i first thought but then having replaced the factory headunit, it is all working fine which lead me to believe the fuses were all ok?

iirc when i had a mk 3 golf gti i had to swap the red and yellow wires on the leads. they was bullet type connector so no cutting was required.

Ok, iv just had a look again and the clock actually does work its just the headunit, but the black and red cables are in the right place im not 100% about the yellow but it seems theres only 4 connections going into the block from the headunit with 8 connections coming from the car?

by looking at your last pic has the black wire been pushed out the block as you have connected them together?

  Clio 197 R27 No. 395
no theres not. i have tried pushing the black wire in but it is connect yeah i think my problem may be the yellow wire and possibly the blue?

yellow is memory. you would still get power but everytime you turned it off you would lose stored radio stations

i have yellow and black going into a fuse box with a yellow coming out which then has a connector which connects it to the yellow wire going to the block, but there are also connectors for the red wire which at the moment is connect to a red wire going to the headunit?

i realised this as i wrote it silly mistake really, all is working cheers for the help mate it is much appreciated!

told ya lol. store a radio station then turn if off then on again and check it stores the station

For a head unit to work you need two sources of power.
One permanent live, from the battery. And one fed from the ignition, which supplies twelve volts when the ignition is on.
These are normally the yellow and red wires. On some cars the wire which comes from the ignition is switched, so you will have to swap the bullets on the red and yellow in order for it to save radio settings when you turn your igntion off.
Obviously the other thing you need is the earth wire which is black to be properly connected to an earthing point. All three need to be connected and power running through for the unit to power on.

No. The red and yellow wires on the loom should do that. Its just which one does which is what is different in some cars.
Except some cars are canbus, or don't have proper ignition feeds, then you need to wire one yourself. Don't think 197's are tho iirc.

Is your headunit powering on now?

yeah i had a look back at the wiring diagram and it was just a matter of switching the red and yellow wires round its all working now. Thanks for the help :)
