Trying to save a £300 172 cup

  172 cup
@Andy P I couldn't see or find that bracket today [emoji1787]
I got the front and back mounts on but I'm using a battery I had kicking about and it's causing issues at the moment as it's massive

Door cards got put stripped and the sticky stuff applied

Rear Calipers didn't turn up

Wheels and tyres got dropped to the refurbers [emoji16]

Then took the wife out car shopping and got her a 2.0 140bhp dsg golf cab

So I'm in the good books maybe I will get away spending some cash on the clio

I still need
Both ball joints and both track rod ends and a service kit

This ones never going to be as minter I am juat trying to make it a solid as can be

I've sold my mk7 gti golf so it might get used for work a bit more than first thought over the next few months while I save for a new car

Also just ordered oil and filter

So really it's just a bit of paint and the belt doing I am just going to drive it for now if it snaps I'll replace the engine 😂

  172 cup
So yesterday I managed to get a bit done

Rear Calipers changed and bleed
Lower ball joints replaced
Track rod ends replaced

I am really unsure of the brakes the pedal feels rock solid iss that how they are on 172 cups

And finally the wheels turini's [emoji7]

The cars rough but looks great from a distance [emoji23] it don't stand me in much so I can live with that

I am just under 1400 quid now happy days [emoji6]

Looks fantastic mate. Great rescue effort. Wheels have changed it dramatically.

ride height looks huge! sure its on the correct springs? try and get hold of a 2nd hand set of eibach sports or cooksports will make a huge difference.

IIRC, there's a one way valve in the servo that can bugger about. Testing my knowledge as it was 10 years I had this!
I've sked my mechanic mate that got me the car to come round and have a drive to get his opinion on it

Let's see what he thinks [emoji1303]

Suspension was always on the cards as I want to do track days

But the rears have some aftermarket shocks made by kyb I think [emoji848]

Looks like all the hard work is paying off mate! Nice job you've done there, those wheel definitely make the car!

Whats next on the list then?

Suspension is definetly next

I've ordered some camber bolts
And like i said above I think I've got some grams lowering spring with fairly new cup shocks coming just waiting on the seller

Then a good geo set up

I'm still not happy with the brakes

And I still have an hispeed fan error when scanning the car

Great save👍. I think you'll be dailying this a lot more than you expected to! That's a great deal on the suspension. I've heard the gramms springs are good, I thought cooksports were too stiff personally.

I managed to bag the suspension 135 delivered I've also ordered some eibach camber bolts

I'll get the geo done when it's all fitted

Need to find out a fast road / track setup I really have no clue with these clios

So Saturday morning I managed to get the rear brakes done and the springs and shocks on the rear done

Then went out car shopping I found a bargain 16 plate golf gtd that I'm going to flip

Today I managed to get the front lowered swapping over the shocks and springs

Also added the camber bolts and basicly set it to maximum [emoji1787]

I will get it all aligned when the log book arrives as I can't tax it till it comes

Heres a setup i used before i did a Rollcentre correction kit.. I'm running AST5100 though and as you know my car is a track pig.. You could try running around 1.5 or 2 degree negative camber all round to start with as a road/track car.. Clio's work well with 10 mins toe out on the front as it really helps the turn in.. We all have different driving styles so give it try and see how it feels...

Edit: ignore the rear left as that was realigned with shims.. I run 10mins toe in on the rear..

nice one i will show it to the tracking guy

so i have spent a few quid on the car this last week as i had a touch with some cash

genuine cambelt kit water pump Dephaser Pulley Water pump & 5L Coolant that was 250ish
rear exhaust powerflex exhaust mount as mine is battered
powerflex upper engine mount insert
Bosch Car Battery 12V 44Ah Type 063

its going into my friends garage Retro Resus for the belt to be done he is going to look into the brakes and high speed fan error too and hopefully tracking as he builds race cars

should only need a set of 195/50/25 semi slicks for them old ropey tsw wheels and i can book a track day after that

  172 cup
Still racking up the miles so far I have done about 300 miles and all seems well except the engine feels like it's got alot of movement and as it already had a power flex dog bone mount I've ordered 3 new febi engine mounts and I still have the powerflex poly insert for the top right mount so that should tighten it up a little

Neew pbs pads and brembo hc discs have been fitted

Should be going for the cambelt and few issues end of the week [emoji6]

The cars off tomorrow to sunny Somerset to Retro Resus my mates collecting his car so he's going to drop mine off save me driving all the way from London it's my mates place it will probably be there till then end of August he has a list as long as my arm but he's really busy so will fit it in around jobs

BUT [emoji1787] it will be ready for a track when it leaves so I'll be patiant

That gives me time to do some jobs on the s3 going to fit a later edition turbo and get a few little bits on the intake done then going to get Apr stage 1 engine and box

Should make it a perfect daily [emoji7]
