Two smart VW GTI's (MKV & 6n2)

Car  Audi A4 AVANT 1.9TDi
VW Golf GTi MKV – Dodo enhancement detail

A very clean car to begin with. So much so, it was difficult to make much of an impact as it’s been so well looked after already! A single-pass with Lime Prime was used to remove the surface haze and add gloss to the already spangling paint.

As said, car was very clean. It was presented to me in the garage and I begun to wonder if it was even worth washing it! An ONR wash maybe?

Once outside and the wheels/shuts/crevices were taken a closer look at, a full-wash stage would be needed after all.

First off, the Scirocco wheels were looked at. The fronts had only just returned from a refurb and, the owner uses most of the kit I do, so, the rears were pretty spanking too!

Requiring only a splash of Tardis to lift a few tar deposits..

DSC06714wd.webp

Sills and shuts then cleaned with G101 and Tardis.

My new Daddy-sized Born To Be Mild bottle put to use..

DSC06715wd.webp

Once washed, I went over the lower areas with Tardis lifting minute amounts of tar... Sonus Green clay used to lift a few patches of contaminants but again, only requiring a quick pass as it wasn’t long ago that it was last done by the owner.

Residues rinsed, water-sheeted, towel dried and the blown with the Black Baron Vehicle Dryer to remove water from the window-jams, bumpstrips and badges etc..

Bone dry.

I’d been asked to take a look at a few scuffs on both the O/S and N/S rear quarters where it’d been caught in the past..

N/S giving a few interesting readings!

DSC06730wd.webp
DSC06731wd.webp

Compared to that of other areas on the car:

DSC06732wd.webp
DSC06733wd.webp

Scuff spotted just above the arch lip..

DSC06742wd.webp

DSC06743wd.webp

Lime Prime did nothing. Stepped up to Menz 203s on a light cutting pad. Again, very little difference (even with the surrounding swirls...)

DSC06744wd.webp

DSC06746wd.webp

Finally finishing on an orange heavy cut pad with IP 3.02. This paint is HARD. If a full correction were needed, multiple hits would be required to achieve the desired results; probably the toughest paint I’ve come across to date.

After:

DSC06753wd.webp

As you can see, it wasn’t enough to clean the area completely, but, enough to make a difference to the scuff on the arch-lip which was the original plan.

DSC06747wd.webp

Same process carried out on the O/S (which was equally as hard)

Lime Prime used with a yellow 3M polishing pad to cleanse the rest of the vehicle.

Some spot work done on the R32 rear clusters:

Menz 203s used by hand on a light cut pad to take the edge off the scratches in the door-handle surrounds..

A few bodyshop trials removed from the recently painted bumpers..

Exterior plastic trims dressed with Megs All Season. Tyres with Megs Endurance Gel. Alloys sealed with JetSEAL109. Glass with AG Fast Glass.

Once finalised, wiped-down and packed up, the car was put over the road in hope of chasing the remaining sun…

A nicely spec’d model and an absolute credit to the owner.

Now, I must get on and get the Avant washed as its been almost two weeks since its last! L

VW Polo 6n2 GTi – Dodo enhancement detail

Similar job spec involved here as the recently worked on Candy White GTi.. Equally as clean, but, a few more defects and holograms to deal with from previous machine polishing sessions.

…is that it? No more inspection photos!!? I think it was overcast and the camera took a back seat at this stage unfortunately.

Again, generally a nice clean and well cared for example. A previous machine session with G4 had left some pretty patterns in the paint and a few contaminated patches requiring attention.

Sitting on some Audi A8 ‘winter wheels’ (very rare these!), they only required a quick clean with G101 and a few brushes to remove the light dusting. Arches and tyres cleaned at the same time..

Sills and shuts cleaned with G101 and Tardis to shift the stubborn areas.

DSC06855wd.webp

DSC06860wd.webp

Intricate areas (badges, gaps, seems etc) cleaned whilst the foam dwelled and finally washed with the two bucket wash and Dodo’s Born To Be Mild shampoo.

Tar deposits picked off with Tardis..

DSC06864wd.webp

Before/after:

DSC06862wd.webp

DSC06863wd.webp

This was about the worst of the pick-up seen from the claying stages.. Said contaminants were removed from the rear windscreen which had never been done before (as it shows)

DSC06865wd.webp

Once blown and dry, the vehicle was left stood looking like this:

DSC06866wd.webp

DSC06867wd.webp

DSC06868wd.webp

Some nice scratches that were created by a pheasant’s belly! (Bonuses of living in the countryside!)

3m polishing pad, Dodo Juice Lime Prime. GO!

Bonnet before:

DSC06877wd.webp

After:

DSC06878wd.webp

Removing the haze, but, a fair few other nicks left in the paint.

50/50:

DSC06880wd.webp

DSC06883wd.webp

To fully remove the strange machine hologramming (they weren’t buffer trails as such, more like clay marring?), I stepped up to Menz 203s on a green Hexlogic cutting pad.. This to re-hit the scratches left by the pheasant, too.

DSC06915wd.webp

As the sun was beaming down I rolled it outside to check how she’s looking..

DSC06918wd.webp

The O/S C-pillar hadn’t cleaned up as well as I’d hoped; Menz 203s and the Green pad used to fix this nicely..

DSC06920wd.webp

DSC06924wd.webp

DSC06926wd.webp

Tailgate also fully 203s’d:

DSC06928wd.webp

Areas that had been machined properly received a glazing of Clearkote Red Moose Glaze. The vinyl roof was cleansed by hand and Dodo Juice Lime Prime Light. Wax of choice? It had to be SuperNatural. Trimmings were done. Dressings applied and glass cleaned. Finished.

Lovely little car!!

Many thanks for reading.

Jim

Love them both. Great work. Not really feeling those wheels on the Golf though. Don't suit it.

both look amazing mate done an amazing job, do you do this for a living or just a bit on the side? mines could do with this kind of treatment haha!

how much would something like this cost?

the gti could do with the full works

woooooooooow the red that came out of that polo.......just awesome

good work

Thanks all.

A few mixed reactions RE the wheels, SC03OTT tbh. Personally, I find they set the car off quite nicely - maybe they 'did it' for me more whilst in the flesh as it were...

Richy, this is my full time now. Took the plunge back in April 2009.

bigup7, RE the torch.. above, there is a mix of full-sun, camera flash and the Brinkmann LED torch (camera flash the more 'white' reflection..)

Dink, feel free to drop me a PM if you like chap.

Seems the Polo got a lot of interest!! Will pass on the nice words to the other. Thanks.

Haha

Nice work amazing, its just funny how one bottle of Endurance Gel will never run out with the tyres you have!! They are so low profile!
