Tyres on Cup different / better to 172

Hi Guys, are the tyres on the Cup different to the new shape 172 as I might get the same.?

Its tyre time for me and doing the research. I originally swapped the contisports for Toyo T1-Ss.. amazing dry, sh*t wet (dont even bother cornering) and defo dont want these again. No wonder TVR stopped using them.

Finding it hard to find 195/55R16 tyres in popular makes like Eagle F1s!? any advice all?

nice one,

Si.

maybe it was just your batch, but my T1s are excellent in the wet and dry.

Erk, ill check and post again! yer, i think theyre 45. Really, the T1Ss I cant believe how you cant turn the wheel and expect to go in that direction in the wet!

They were brand spankers, gawd knows. Even thinking of going back to contis! argh! i need advice!

ive had a set of Toyos (205/40/17) and found them to be really good in all conditions, and will be changing for them on my 172 soon.

I got two Eagle F1s put on the front last weekend. Dont like them much to be honest.

I dont know if its the 36psi of air in them but they definitely arent as grippy as the Contis on the same pressure. They seem to slide a lot more on the twisties.

Although they dont seem to tramline as much as the contis.

Ill be dropping the pressure to see if that helps with grip.

If not Im thinking of getting the contis swapped from the rear to the front when the cars in at Renault next week.

monkeymagic - Eagle f1s are a fantastic tyre, try running at 34/32 and see how that reacts, but the contis were poo, and I changed after 600 miles LoL

Ive gotta say, the contis in the wet were SH*TE, but the eagle f1s are fab, esp round Bedford in the wet, so you aint made a bad choice, just try out the tyre pressures and see what you like best, on the same bit of road each test etc.

ive just put on four eagle F1s if think they are great but you need to play around with the pressures, Roamer are you running 34 front 32 rear, how do you find them.... cheers

TheCup + "normal" 172 both use Contis.

I swapped for Toyo but im gonna go for contis again after the Toyo are dead.

Might just do that too, the toyos are defo worse than the contis were. its going in for its 24k service on weds, so ill get a quote for some new tyres too. im expecting rip off prices tho.
