Uniroyal Rainsport 5

Anyone tried them yet? Will be buying a set in the coming weeks for the MR2 for road and wets.

According to their press release they've taken onboard the criticism of wear and handling...

Reviews look properly decent, be interesting to see if they are as soft as the RS 3 were.

Mmm, not so sure given they are claiming only a 3% increase is handling. Wear looks much better though and that's where I was least impressed as I got less than 5k miles out of a full rotated set on the road.

Used to rate the 3's for the road rally cars as they are brilliant in the wet and muddy lanes. I am half tempted by the 5's to use as wets for the rally car. Had 3's on the scenic but as above didn't last ages but still getting on towards 20k on the front.

I've used Rainsport 2's then 3's for a few years. Really rate them especially in the wet. Wear rate was always poor, similar to you, most I would get out of a pair would be less than 6k miles even with rotating them.
I'm now running Avon ZV7's which feel good in the dry and wet. Maybe not quite as good as the RS3' s in the wet but according to a couple of people on here the wear rate is exceptional. 1500 miles in they still look like new.
I wonder why they went from RS3's to RS5's? No RS4's?
I'll keep my eyes out on the reviews for the 5's.
As for handling issues. I always went for the higher 87 load rating and ran them a couple of psi higher.

Anyone used these need a new set of tyres for daughter so either RS5 or these, https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/cart/

No idea what your other option was but rainsport have always been good IMO especially on small cars. Not sure I'd have them on a range rover...

Yes they're soft, but is that a surprise considering the compound is designed to work exceptionally in rain ?!

They're nowhere near as expensive as a Michelin top end tyre but if they're half the price and last half as long.. so what ?

Tyres are the only thing that makes contact with the tarmac.. why would you compromise on that.

Goodyear topped recent tyre test, beating the Michelin & continentals.
Think I will just get a set of RainSport 5 for her Fiesta as proven tyres.

Let us know in here how you get on with them fella. (y)
Looks like they don't do 205/45/16's in the RS5's , according to Uniroyals website anyway. It does state " extended tyre life". Anything over 5500 miles is extended to me ;) that's what I was averaging on a set of RS3's.

I'll be going 195/50/15 front and 205/55/16 rear on the MR2.

You'd think Uniroyals own website would show all the sizes lol. Didn't think off going straight Camskills site.
I'm gonna stick with these Avon ZV7's for now. They feel good enough in the dry and wet and wear rate so far is miles better than the RS3' s. When there have been quite a few positive reviews I might consider the RS5's in the future.

I've never been a fan of Rainsport 3, too soft and wear rate is rubbish. I got 4k miles out of a pair of fronts on a 182 running 15's

Have you looked at Hankook Prime 3 K125? I was going to throw a set of these on my MR2, but sold it in the end. Seem to get decent reviews, and tests seem to typically put them just below PS4 and Goodyear F1 Asy 5.

I'll have a look mate, nice one. I just use the Rainsports as wets though and the 3s were brilliant at that for the money.

I've never found the wear rate that bad with Rainsports? They just need to have the correct PSI.

Thats what I use them for and in my experience they're peerless. I've tried AD08R, NS2, & R888R in the rain (admittedly not all are wet weather specialists like the RS3's) and the RS3 is leagues ahead of all of those when there is still standing water. I think their may be a better option for when its only damp/drying as they do tend to overheat and you find yourself searching for puddles on the straights to cool them down.

At Silverstone in the rain the other week I was comfortably hauling in McLarens, Porsches, Lambos, even a TCR Seat! So much confidence on these tyres I was flat through Maggots

That's it mate, in the wet for the money it's a no brainer. As soon as the puddles disappear I'd throw my AR1's on and once a dry line appears go to full slicks.

What's the correct PSI ? I always went with the higher load rating when using RS2's and RS3's and always needed to run 34/35 PSI. I've gone through quite a few sets getting anywhere from 5k miles to just under 6k miles.
They're a fantastic tyre in the wet , the only other tyre I thought was as good was the Michelin Pilot Exaltos that were originally fitted to 182's. If they still made them I'd still be running them.

Surely a set doing 5k it was time to re think on the next set?

I've just checked and it's working fine for me mate £133
Well that's bloody annoying. I need to get some racewear and would love 20% off as that stuff is never on sale. It doesn't appear to be working on anything I want to use the code for, even non DT stuff. Weird.

It's only off certain items on DT.
