uniroyal rainsports - any good

  Clio 172 cup
I'm due some new tyres and have wondered about these tyres.

Has anybody used them?

Michelin PE2's seem to be hard to get at the moment so i'm looking at alternatives

i got some uniroyals in for a customer the other week he said they are siht hot, but ive never tried them personally

Good tyre wet or dry really, only problem is they wear fairly quickly and they're noisyish.

Might be better looking at the Rallye line they do.

i've heard that the wear rate is actually pretty good. whats your definition of quickly?

What are the Ralleye line, is it similar

Rallye have a better wear rate than the Rainsport simply due to a harder compound.

They're nothing like as good as PE2 for wear in my experience, but they're a lot better tyre in the wet than PE2 (which frankly I think are shite for aquaplaning), horses for courses.

ive had uniroyal rainsports up front for a while, there pretty discent for the price i wud say, still spins in the wet pretty easily though.
and once they wear, they are are noisy.

i'll purchase again though

Ok after reading peoples comments about these i think i might give them a miss.

They do see good value though £65 per corner fitted.

Think i will have to wait to get some PE2's

Eagle F1s are something else to look at maybe? Rate them very highly myself, wear reasonably quickly because of the soft compound but god they stick especially when you get them warm (not like you will in this weather lol). And bloody good in the wet.

Ive thought about those as well.

I think i've narrowed it down to michelin PE2 ,F1 GSD3 and Conti sport contact.

Now i've just got to find somewhere that has them in !

Not Do Bargepole with! Touch a...

Work it out...

The car will tramline, roll and not stop very well.

If you want the budgie - try BF Goodridge Profiler G or Toyo Proxy T1-R

out of: "I think i've narrowed it down to michelin PE2 ,F1 GSD3 and Conti sport contact."

GSD3 - the others are shite - Conti Ditchfinders & Positively Eusless 2's

I had a brand new set last year on the FCS track - after the hour they were shot. They are OK in the wet but they are not performance tyres.

SO the general consensus is the Eagle F1 GSD3 over the Michelin PE2 ?

Right. thats the one for me then.

I got a full set and took them off within a week. They have much softer tyre walls and the car felt like it was floating round bend. Maybe if you have two on the front or back but a full set is just scary imo

I have the GSD3s all round. They are great grippers, but I don't have much to compare with except the original Conti's which I had from 17k onwards.

I regained so much confidence when I put them on (as you would from most new tyres) it was nice to throw the thing around corners again without sliding all over the place!

Well i've decided to get the PE2's.

Getting them fitted in about 10mins. £90 per corner

Thanks for the comments guys, nice little discussion.

PE2s for the win. ive had a few sets of GSD's and they dont last and are cack in the wet!

Lol yeah still can't believe I got shut! ;) Naa as I said they are fine with just two as the other two tyres will allow you to keep the stability...honest ;)
