Uprated Camshafts

  Lotus Elise
Evening all.

I am currently researching uprated cams and have come to several conclusions.

428s = Good but £600
421s = None seems to have them.
Pipers = Some rattle some don't, make good power and are £200 cheaper
Shrink = Epic if you can find and get a second mortgage.

Now what experiences have the good people of CS had?

Are Catcam worth the £200 premium?

Are pipers a POS?

my 421's have literally just been fitted, and on standard ecu they are much more revvy. Lumpy mind :) Trip to TDF me thinks

Why not hold out for Matts cams? I only went for 421's because I got them at a great price, and the rocker was off anyway

I heard from somewhere that catcams will become available from other suppliers soon might become cheaper? But yea I'd be waiting for the tdf cams

Not many people go for 421's because they are a bit lumpy on standard engine management.

I'd be waiting for TDF's ones myself.

Mine's on 422's if it's any use, get Fred to take you out...

On second thoughts, maybe you should drive ;)

I haven't heard your car yet Doug, been on holiday :(

TDF cams sound interesting but need some more info on them really.

Fred reckons I can get 190 bhp from 428s with my current mods, Im tempted by Piper simply because they are £200 cheaper and than will get me a new cambelt kit.

When you going for mapping? Would love to know your finding.

May mate. Going to ring matt tomorrow (if they're in), and book. :) last time I spoke to him he said 7bhp more over 428s :D

  221bhp/ton Mondial Terror
Mine makes well over 190 bhp on 428's with the standard ecu, with 167.5 ft/lb to match! TDF mapping FTW!

i did a car 2 weeks ago on EC1 with 421's, stock inlet, 428's were similar/same

big difference in the midrange torque tho fred, me and alex compared the graphs with mine prior to the bodies, and his torque curve was definitely better, nearly 20 ft lbs 2500 rpm earlier in some places!

i like dougs cams, what are they, was lumpy as hell on idle but on cam i think i actually poo'd.

obviously this didnt happen and i havent test driven your car ;)

Doug is running 422s.

428s seem to be the order of the day than. Just hope some come up in the for sale sections at a reasonable price so I can get them ASAP.

Can you run any of the mentioned camshafts on standard management? What figures can you expect? Sorry for the noob question

428's, 421's, ed's all work on standard management with proper mapping

421s will, but need standalone to get them to run properly. Idle is the main issue. Mines running at 1200rpm currently just so it doesn't stall

You'll probably not find it that interesting really... ;)

Have you actually had a drive Naith? Even I've not driven it yet!
Soon though, my precious.
