UPS lost 3 of my alloy wheels!!

I have had several items lost by Royal Mail, an item sent last Thursday by Parcelforce 24 arrived on Monday, a mobile sent by parceline didn't arrive because they didn't have enough drivers for the vans, and again another mobile sent yesterday by parceline next day hasn't arrived today because apparently their computer system crashed this morning so no deliveries were made.

They are all the same.

Had a pleasent conversation with the buyer this morning, I had said to him id refund him by last friday but after speaking with UPS and them issuing a trace, as well not realising he could be pulling a fast one, I didnt refund him.

He rung me up this morning telling me ive been lieing to him all along he doesnt trust me etc I said to him unfortunately I would have to wait for UPS to come back to me otherwise I could give him a refund and then UPS might come back and say they did infact deliver 4 boxes. In which case Id be screwed if I had given him his money! He didn't seem to understand this despite me explaining it to him 4 times, I apologised about it but I asked him to understand that if he were in my shoes he would want to make absolutely sure before giving a refund as well, he didn't seem to get that either and told me it wasn't his problem etc

Anyway so in the end he said keep the money, go and spend it on sweets (???) and he would go through paypal and get me 'shut down' and if he was ever in Bristol he would pay a visit :S What a total idiot, I know it sucks to be down by that much cash but you would have thought he might understand my position as well but no joy!

why the hell did he accept/sign for one alloy ??
that bit is beyond me, I reckon he's pulling a fast one.
 
any way of tracking this guy (receiver) and seeing if his car has these alloys on......?
 
Well I have his address but its mileage away from me and I don't have any time off work! Bugger should have remembered to ask him why he only signed for the 1...

To be honest If he has genuinely only received 1 box I can totally appreciate how hacked off he is, but at the same time surely he should understand my position as well? And saying he is gonna pay me a visit if he is in Bristol is totally un-called for though he is welcome to at any time!

I work day in day out with a carrier company, managing massive thousand pound orders that 'go missing' and we get some right idiots.

Majority of them turn up sooner or later, those that don't get claimed back on the carrier. Once they leave our premises the goods are the carriers responsibilty and therefore hold value with them, rather than ourselves. The carrier should have some insurance policy to cover you, whatever the items are, to protect from lost or damaged stuff but i'm sure there is small print etc which would probably mean it proved difficult to get any sort of compensation.

Chances are the other boxes have become detached from the top, labelled box and are sat in a sorting depot somewhere, with no address on...and sadly that is probably where they will stay (unless a returns address or similar was added to the package) Company's such as UPS handles thousands of parcels a day. Those with no labels will just get thrown into a holding bay and unless distiguished from other boxes, just won't move anywhere.

Best thing to do is ask for a POD (proof of deliv.) and UPS should be able to supply, in hardform, a copy of the recipients signature/delivery time/address etc as proof he signed for the goods. You ONLY sign for goods once checked and happy with, if he chose not to, or didn't have the common sense then he is at fault. It could well be those 3 other boxes were sat on the lorry and had become detached during transit. In which case a simple word with the driver may have sorted this whole mess out their and then, at the time of delivery.

I can't see how you are at fault. If he'd done everything in his power to trace the wheels i'd understand, yet he's signed for 1 box, knowing full well he is to recieve 4 wheels, has let the driver leave again and then complained about it. If I were you i'd keep your money in your pocket

Cheers for the replies, his girlfriend/wife whatever signed for it and said she ran after the driver after she signed to check the van or something?

I've got a photocopy from UPS of the signature as well as date and who signed it, just wait for them to get back to me I spose!

It means that he keeps changing his userID, and did so only a couple months ago... hmmm.
 
I have been checking into this guy on ebay. He has bought various bits and pieces for cars, including Audi wheels and VW bonnet and wings and even bought an escort. The feedback he has got from the sellers is pretty darn good. Infact, according to all the comments as a 'buyer' he has recieved, he's been pretty much rated A++++ (and some).

Maybe this guy is pretty genuine afterall, and the mrs/gf was just stupid and signed without first checking into what she 'should' have received.

I think the fact he threatened you was abit over the top. He should give you the benefit of the doubt for now, and indeed give you time to look into it.

I would say, 'if' this guy is a scammer, he is a very clever one. If you bear in mind his past ebay ID's ( at this point I have been unable to check them out) could mean, he buys stuff and pays up well for a while, then scams, changes his ID and moves on. This is the only thing I can think of, other than that it would 'appear' the guy is pretty genuine.
 
I think him threatening you is to be expected if he thinks your scamming him, lots of people would do the same.
 
I would say ( to be fair) that even if the guy went over the top, it is reasonably understandable, although if I was him I would be more cross with the mrs/gf.

I do agree with Rip3z, that if I thought someone had not been on the level with me , I would be pretty furious too! I would however give the person concerned time to prove himself.

I think for your sake you really need to 'push' UPS hard for them to find out what the hell has gone wrong. It is your right afterall, and if they don't sort it soon you could get negative feedback that you truely don't deserve.
 
There is one thing that concerns me about this. 'If' indeed the other 3 parcels have been left behind in their (UPS) warehouse/storeroom, I would have thought they would be easy to spot, being as how they were packaged. There surely can't be many boxes like yours just laying around unclaimed.

It does make me wonder whether they have a dishonest driver. The boxes could have indeed been seperated on his van, and 'maybe' he decided to see what was in them, took a quick peek, liked what he saw (seeing they were not individually marked) and simply dropped them off somewhere for him to pick up and sell on later.

I could be wrong, but it's a thought.

Chase the buggers up, give them hell, and indeed maybe threaten to not only claim for the wheels that have been lost, but tell them you will go for compensation if this guy gives you negative feedback on ebay, as this could well effect your sales in future.

I deliver parcels for Royal Mail...and trust me things can get misplaced...(but when this happens the public, like yourself, assume its stolen) At one given time there can be thousands of packets and parcels sitting in the depot...

This "quick peek" stuff is absolutely b****cks...when you deliver packets and parcels everyday it gets to the point where you couldnt care less what is in the box.

(does that mean you are labeling all delivery drivers as potential thiefs?)

Lets face it, if i was the driver, i wouldnt really want to loose my job and i cannot imagine the driver would do this for the sake of "3" wheels...what value would they have except for selling as spares..?
 
I'm only speculating here, but is there a chance they got your package to the depot and decided it was too heavy so they separated it. Because it had been taken as 1 consignment comprising 1 box whenever the top box gets scanned there are no alerts on the system hence the three wheels are just sitting there as 'lost' waiting for repatriation?

If each wheel have been sent as a separate box then when they scanned the first one the system would be expecting 3 more to follow. An health and saftey being what it is UPS can't afford to have staff lifting boxes that are to heavy!?!?

Surley they could have a look (even out of curiosity) if he has them on the car - bingo !!
Althogh it would look a bit daft with just three alloys on ti & one random one !!

I wasn't saying the driver 'had' taken them. We are all speculating as to what 'could' have happened. There will be many ideas coming from us all, and we could 'all' be wrong. It's just speculation, please don't get upset or offended as no offence was meant.

but lets face it...if a parcel "doesnt arrive" the public accuse the driver of theft...

I know of many cases on forums where people publically boast about claiming for items they HAVE recieved...

seemingly its an easy way to make money (off the backs of the courriers)

Well unfortuntely some people can be extremely dishonest, and claiming for something you 'did' receive is totally wrong!

I know it seems harsh that the majority of the general public blame the couriers, but lets face it, they 'need' to blame someone, especially if the 'Courier service' deny all knowledge of missing parcels.

I am fortunate as our UPS driver is not only friendly but extremely efficient. We can guarantee that if we have a parcel due, it will be delivered by no later than lunchtime. We are aslo fortunate that we have very honest and dependable neighbours that will take in parcels if we are not here, and we do the same for them.
 
Would you believe it they are now denying my claim because apparently it wasn't packaged properly... Despite the fact they shipped it with less packaging when it arrvied to me, and the fact that the packaging was strong enough to withstand being lifted by either end into the van!!

Oh and in their T&Cs it states any package must be able to withstand a 10ft drop??? Try packing something which weighs 35kg to be able to withstand that...

Oh well lucky im doing law at uni :cool: have to whip out the old statutory rights and unfair contract terms act, see how they like that!

And that buyer is a c**k. Occasionally things go missing in the post, that's a fact of life. The difference is a good seller will try to do something about it for the buyer. And threatening you is just down right retarded. I'm sure a lot of people would just say f**k him and keep his money with that attitude.

Surely you could argue that if the items weren't packaged properly they shouldn't have taken them? Good luck anyway buddy
 
why does the buyer think you would send him one wheel and keep three?? does he think you trying to scam him and leave yourself with 3 useless alloys? surely he's not that retarded!! he's blatently trying to scam you otherwise he wouldn't have told you to 'keep the money and spend it on sweets' for christ sake. he's obviously tried it on and realising your not gonna cave thought he can't get very far.

theres loads of things to think about, why would a courier want 3 alloys?? surely you would take all 4 all claim them 'lost'!? rather that take 3 and claim them lost.....
 
I did think about the buyer trying to scam me, but then why would UPS and Interparcel come back to me and admit they had been lost? wouldn't they say that infact all 4 had been delivered?

Or maybe they can't find them because they were infact all delivered and the guy is lying? :S Surely they would check this though as they would try to get out of paying compensation!
