V6

We had a few debates on a thread recently about best Clio and we saw differing views.

I dont want to go there again, but we also talked about tuning and most of the mods. have now been done to my 2004 Clio V6 and the difference is impressive.

Pipercross induction kit, utilising a sealed airbox and a new intake position for the cold air feed, full performance exhaust, getting rid of the cats. at the same time and an engine management upgrade.

The sound is now awesome, a real angry V6 mid-range changing to an absolute screaming wail at the top end. It feels a lot quicker but no dyno. readings yet.

Will be at the Cromford car meet (near Matlock Bath) next Tuesday if anyone fancies coming along with their pride and joy. We meet about 7pm.

where? Cant think of anywhere else it could go!!

Take a look at the Pipercross website and see.

It is not a lot different from stock, but gives a whole lot more/colder air to the engine, which it needs, because the motor is quite strangled as standard on intake and exhaust.

Once the full-exhaust is on and the motor set-up, it breathes WAY more deeply, although it is fractionally down on power at the very bottom of the rev-range, to be fair.

This is made up for by the way it positively leaps for the rev-limiter now.

:D

Any chance of a few pictures and a rough estimate of gained power? Do you now drive a V6 258 ?

Thanks

No dyno. facts yet, but around 30bhp up on standard.

Car looks totally standard MK2.

So V6 285, not 258!

(Williams drivers, dont bother giving chase, hee-hee :D )

Here we go again!

Still worrying about the williams boys even after your new mods! lol

  Clio v6

More questions sorry.

I cant find the pics on pipercross website which explain the route of the breathing. What about the existing fans etc ?

I have a feeling Williams drivers would still spank you round the corners even if you had 350 bhp. Power means very little if you still have to pull over before a bend and catch a bus round it lol

From a fellow V6 255 owner - details please...specs, make, model, prices etc. of the parts youve used!

I cant wait till I get my V6 - role on December.

A friend had a Mk1 V6 with a modded induction kit and the sound was simply awesome.

James, give over.

The V6 handles fine if you know how to use a mid-engine car. The Williams is hardly cutting-edge technology any more, in any event.

Old-fashioned actually, in a lot of ways.

sorry ill rephrase,

a cup will own your ass on track!!!!

Anyway lets not go off topic . This thread is about your mods. The Williams which would certainly be all over a V6 is for a different thread.

You are right. It is a mini-Supercar!

The sound is 100 times better than the 4-pots. The performance is way better, too.

Vee Six, two words

Power + Weight

a cup would surprise you on track

Yeah a CUP might be almost fast due to power to weight, but will always look very std and therefore rather "Girlie"...lol, as everyone knows the Clio to be a girls car....unless it the V6, that is....lol;)

That is NO surprise.....lol;)

Simon.

all in jest btw......getting fed up of these stupid Clio V Clio V6 threads these days.....

God this is getting boring now ;)

As a relative newcomer to Renault I have never known the flagship car in a car range come under as much flack as the v6.

Ive owned Fords in the past and the Cosworth was worshipped, Ive had Fiats and Arbarth was God. Vauxhalls (sorry) and the Lotus Carlton was equivalant to a good two inches on your c**k!

Why all the hostility to the v6? Yes the owners can be a little up their own arses but they have good reason to be, its a fantastic car. So is the Williams/172/182 but they arent a mid engined son of a mentalist car designer.

If you dont like the v6 go and buy a FWD Citroen, Ford or "cough" Vauxhall.

You really, really dont know how lucky you are to have a manufacturer such as Renault who will make cars such as this.

The Williams which would be all over a mildly-tuned V6 like mine would have to have an engine twice as powerful as the powder-puff one it comes with standard, mate.

johnnyb makes a valid point.

When I had an Escort Cosworth, nobody in their XR3i claimed that their weight advantage made it a better car.

When I owned a Honda NSX, Honda Civic Type R owners didnt leap around, quoting the high list price of the sports car and claiming that on a tight track there wouldnt be much in it.

I put the whole Clio V6-dislike thing to 3 neutrals at a car meet last week, 2 TVR owners and one with a Porsche.

They agreed with me that it is partly jealousy---most Williams owners couldnt afford a V6. Also they said that the fact that it is so different from any other Clio is a factor. It doesnt sit easily alongside 2.0 4-pots.

It is, however, the horniest, fastest, quickest, best-looking, best-sounding and most desirable Clio of all time as well as the most valuable...all by a distance. That is plain and simple F A C T. Justv how it is guys, get over it. Live with it.

  Lionel Richie

i argee with you about the looks and sound, amd the desirability, but they arent that sh*t hot in terms of performance/handling

this is my point, in my opinion its a very expensive drivers car

The cup boys were absolutley demolising the V6s at the recent Brands Hatch track day

ok so the Cups were all modified, but this is where my story thickens!!!

some V6 owners get a bit high and mighty (pissed off) that theyve spent £23ishK on a V6, and a clio cup with about £5Kish worth of work can eat it for breakfast on track!

Im not having a dig or owt, and i am very jealous that i dont own a V6!!!

but in "bang for buck" terms IMO the V6 isnt worth while (new anyway, second hand is a different matter) If it had 300bhp std, then yes awesome car, but theyre under powered, which is a crying shame

Now thats what I call a true Clio enthusiast. A £500 car with £2000 worth of mods. Imagine the V6 owners taking their heads out of their arses to witness that baby blasting past them. :D

youre become a bit of a rebel in your old age Jimbo!!!!!

(where did you "magic" those prices from BTW)

  Clio v6

Not so much a rebel Im just a little more realistic. The prices have a touch of wishful thinking incorporated.;)

Fair comment, except this bit. None of us are disappointed in the least with our V6s from what I can see. More than happy with mine. I drove away from a Honda S2000 yesterday and no Clio 4-pot could do that. Yes, it was a straight line, but how many of our miles are done on a twisty track? 5% if that. So this track thing is largely irrelevant. My mates £2000 Westfield would murder ANY Cup or Williams on a tight track (135bhp and just 500kgs) but so what ???

Until it meets a V6 like mine on a clear stretch and it shows the kit-car a 30+ mph advantage and they dont even know where the gorgeous sounding 6-pot went !

I bet the owner loves you for calling it £2500-worth!

Obviously a different Brands Hatch day to the one I was on

Yeah Id agree the V6 is about the whole experience

Glad you happy with your car, thats all that matters really. :)
