valver cam belt change, how much?

Going to look at a valver at the weekend, it's on 60k and the owner is not sure if the cam belts been done or not. If i buy it then i'd have the cam belt done asap, how much should this cost? Gonna try using a local garage unless someone on here can recommend anybody. Is it a big job, any advice would help. Need to know how much to knock off the guy's asking price to account for the belt change.

Renault will charge a silly amount. Best going to places that specialise in Renaults (I took mine to BB) and as they see Valvers and Williams all the time they get the job done the quickest and cheapest way. Think mine was circa £137 plus VAT. Where you are and how far you are prepared to travel will decide it. Choose from BB, KTEC, Hillpower, GDI or places like Renatec and others. Waterpump is worth getting looked at at same time, BB found mine to be corroded and replaced it. Everything engine related is high cost due to the lack of space so go to places that know what they are doing.

Oh and don't forget your cliosport discount at many of the places. Mine has ran out but the membership is worth it in discounts alone.

who are bb? where are they based? do they have a website?

I got my 16v cambelt changed last year...Renault (inchsacpe) in Southampton wanted £501..! (even the woman behind the counter had to check it three times..!), so went to another garage locally, and they did it for £120 (inc part & VAT). Renault indicate it's something like a 8-9 hour job, where as my local garage just used the mechanic with the smallest hands..(!)..and then a 3-4 hour job..

many garages have been known not to change the complete belt kit...

the hard part is the lower belt runner which is behind the plastics...

many leave that one... and it must be changed...

water pumps not too bad if all the plastics are out at the same time.

I'm sure that the cambelt kit alone is about £80.00 ? from renault.
(it was when I had mine done the other year)

Cambelt kit costs about £100 from ren, and its a 10hour job! I always change all the idlers and tensioners.

Am unsure if belt has been changed........previous owner doesnt know!:S
as far am i am aware there is know way of visually telling.???

Anyone know reputable garages that will do it near Leeds
