valver or williams 1

which would be best to buy? I know the 16v is only group 12 where williams is group 17! seems a bit harsh for an extra 13bhp?! how much is a good williams 1 worth?

Williams is quite different - handling wise, performance wise (more torque in Williams) etc..

and i thought u wanted somethin with more comfort! on the upside, buy my valver! already williams power 154 bhp

Valvers are rev happy, have to keep em on cam. Williams has more torque available at lower revs but redlines lower.

If your going from a GTT to a Clio Id consider test driving before you jump in at the deep end.

Very different driving experience, youll either love or hate it.

Get an insurance quote for both and go from there. Hearts gotta say williams, but head (and pocket) might tell you Valver

Yeah got to agree, 13 BHP isnt worth the extra cash. I mean who wants a car that holds its value, is rare, gets lots of attention, has a famous name, outperforms most modern cars in its class, is economical, its serious fun and is worth more than an eqivalent valver even after its been written off?

IMO of course.;)

the gtt is definately going ben id have ure valver but its kitted up and i want a fairly standard one, just lowered with alloys. I know neither will be as quick as my 5 but im sure either will be a lot more comfortable! How much is a good williams 1 worth cos ive been offered one?

willy, i havent driven either which is why im asking opinions i like the look of valver and williams but i know williams 1 is rare (limited to 400 isnt it?) which attracts me to it more. I read in a mag it was group 17 insurance but on here it says 15??

well i havent seen it yet but the guy wants to do a swap for my gtt which i have up for £4500 dont know many details about it other than:

willy no329 magnex zorst pcros viper hill power ign kit rr on wed 4804 155.2bhp .just fitted ktec de catand standard air box with px element.

It group 17. Will cost the same a s a Valver to run. Overall a much more accomplished car than the Valver. Isnt much better in any respect but add together all the little refinments and its a better complete package.

If you buy a bad example will cost anything as low as £1K

If you go mid range will cost probably £4k

The best examples go for £6K and the sky is the limit.

Its a sellers market for the best examples as they are so rare. 400 were made but id be supprised if there are more than 200 left. Try and buy an unmolestered one, and you will have to search hard. The 1s will hold their value better as they are the holologation car. 2s and 3s are just copies and not holologation cars, hence their residuals, all things being equal, is not so great.

Id go for a mechanically sound car over a cosmetically sound one given the choice. Although in an ideal world cosmetics and mechanics should be A1.

Be prepared to spend £1000 on new suspension parts and £500 on bits and pieces on all but the very best examples (if it hasnt recently been done), assuming you want it to handle correctly.

I had a valver for 2 years and drove a williams for the first time the other day. id say willy all the way!

Just get yourself on the tesco or direct line websites and get a quote for both, it will answer your question straight away as to whether you can afford one

Valver with a GTT lump :)

I so nearly did it but bought the Tubby instead.

If I had a Williams I would want a late Willy3 as the colour for one is better and it comes with all the gubbins unlike the Williams one which is more basic than a valver.

you mean a sunroof? lol

Electric mirrors and abs too!

Also you can make a valver look 100 times better than a Williams.

Id prefer my valver looks wise to any standard williams.

  williams and trophy

each to their own.............but its gotta be willy all the way IMO

lmao at leccy mirrors....u get in ur car, sort out ur driving position, sort out ur mirror..............whens the next time u gunna need an electric motor to move the mirror???.....jus adds pointless weight IMO

sunroof...........stick with the willy 1s n 2s mate.......clio sunroofs are always leakin, cause a major weak point in the shell....and basically just isnt a williams with 1 ;)

personally id have the standard williams over the valver any day of the week.....which is why i sold me old valver...had the willy n valver 3 months.......valver never even got started up in that time........

i have both also... the valver has covered about 2 miles since my ownership...

as for making a valver look 100s better thats subjective... besides, how does spraying it blue and putting Willy wheels on a valver make it look better than a Williams? ;)

Ollie if your anywhere near Bracknell in Berkshire let me know and you can have a go in my Williams.....

Its got a magnex cat back and a pipercross air filter but standard apart from that.

Its got loads of torque and the grip is fantastic - its definatley faster than my old Delta HF Turbo ie which was running 200+ bhp.

IMHO buy one.

:D

If i could of afforded the insurance, i would of bought a williams rather than my valver. I can insure a williams for about 1k at the mo but i only pay 600 on the valver. Get a Quote!!

  LY 200

The only reason i will sell my valver is so i can buy a willy!!!

If you like nice wheels etc buy a valver but if you like the way the Williams is in standard form buy a Williams!!!

someone has a williams in soton, cant remeber who tho. id say go for the willy 1. but check it over good first. look at the buying guide on the main page. if u get a sh*t one then its gonna cost u lots!

Williams is the superior car no question there...but it comes at a higher purchase and insurance cost. If you can afford one, get one but if you can be arsed with the hassle of converting a 1.8 to the similar spec then itll be cheaper and arguably better IMO.

Williams all the way fella, there is A LOT more to owning a driving a williams than just adding a 2.0 to a valver...

  BMW 320d Sport

Williams if you can afford it. If youre not totally mental over Willys yet, think about a Willy 2. A bit more solidly put together than the 1, still without the sunroof, which is best, and youll get one cheaper even though its newer. The driving experience will be the same as a WIlly 1 though, you just dont get the plaque.

Traitor!

Valvers are ace!

I sold my 5 last year, bought a valver as a replacement, youll find they dont feel as fast as a GTT, but so far much more reliable, ive not driven a Williams, but it depends what you want to do with it really, although i cant honestly see the extra 13?bhp doing alot. ig 17? bloody hell, mines £500 as it is with 4 years ncb, even a modded GTT is between 12 and 17, and it would stuff a Willy. Anyway m8, it will depend on ya £ really. Have ya thought of the GTT in a Clio? or does the 1.4 reliability put ya off a bit? I must admit i still miss my 5, performance and character, not much about these days.

its not just the 13bhp though, they have a lot more low down torque and pull very well from 2krpm rather than 4krpm on the 1.8
