Which would you choose for a new small business computer and why?
Neither costs more or less so it's all opinion please.

I use XP on my laptop, not used Vista much, looks wierd but obviously I'd get used to it so that isn't really an issue.

Actually, if I choose XP I don;t need to buy the business package of word, excel etc because i have it on disc already for XP, which will save me £170....worth it?

Vista..

Why would I use an older/inferior OS when I could get something better for same price.

(Awaits doom mongers and the tin foil bandwagon to appear)

I quite like Vista; but there's no business case for having it over XP.

If it is just your personal "business" computer then it's up to you.

And you can use the same disc of office on either OS.

Ah sh33n didn't know that, thats good then. I have Office Proffesional 2003, that will definately work?

What is the difference between vista/xp home, business and ultimate? Any reason to spend more on a specific option?

Look on the MS site mate, there's loads of info.

And yer 2003 will work, you will probably need the latest SP for it though.

Argh thats crap, how can I get it to work, I could do with a second opinion!
I won;t be paying the normal price, it will be minus VAT.

The spec is basically:

2.2GHz, 2mb cache
Vista Business
19" flat panel
3072mb ram
1TB hard drive
3 year mcafee security
wireless card
cheap speakers

all that for about £380.

it's a Dell Vostro 400 by the way. seem good?

Yer seems decent enough, is that a dual core intel CPU?

I recently got a quad core Vostro 400 system with 19" screen and am very happy with it, running Vista Home Premium.

it says:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4500 processor (2.20GHz, 800MHz, 2MB cache)

that what you mean?

how much did you pay for yours out of interest?

Think it was just over £400 inc VAT and Delivery.

Doesn't have as big HD or Wireless, and only 2Gb Mem though.

  A blue one.
vista, soon enough xp will be the windows 98 and then the windows 95.

It must be worrying for MS is that XP is still far better than Vista and will be for the duration of Vistas life!

I bet Windows 7 can't come quick enough for them!

Can't really afford one yet now, plus I don;t NEED it until September time if all goes well, which is a shame!

I'll keep all this in mind though.

tbh i ran vista for a year, im now back on xp pro and the difference ive noticed is nothing.

same fps on my games, same loading times, same general speeds for folders etc.

i think people who use xp are just like the xbox fanboys who would never go upto a better product like a ps3 because they are loyal to that brand, which is fair enough.

only thing i dislike about xp is the desktop and colour schemes. first thing i did when i got xp was install windowblinds and reskin it all into a more easy on the eyes skin, like vista.

With that spec, would def. go for Vista.

Home has Media Centre. Business has backup. Ultimate has both.

Not fussed about music stuff, but back-up is a good thing.
