Thought I'd ask in here as well as browsing ebay. I also thought this section would be better as more people may have instrest in this section rather than the wanted section.

2nd hand or best place to look online? It'll be paired with a Nikon D3300.

Thanks, Mark.

Looks right.
I'm not familiar with Nikon though but it does look decent for the price.
He seems to have good feedback. Might be worth a punt.

My only gripe is that there is no returns. Bit odd.

I will continue my hunt. We are going to the New forest next weekend, so I'd like it for then ideally. There's a couple of mint ones on eBay, but I thought i'd ask in here too.

Thanks @Aaron..

It was @Christopher. but the no returns put big dought in my mind. I was watching one on eBay this morning and its currently at £127 (at the time of this post) with £6 delivery and still 45 mins to go so i bit the bullet and bought this new 1/2 hr ago from currys/pc world for £160.

I only got the camera the other day Rob. Emily shot out and bought me a D3300 with 18-55 kit lens so I only have that and the above. Bloody nice surprise though :)

I'm on your starting out so don't want to go mad until I'm comfortable shooting. Practice more and more though.

I would like a nice wide angle but I'll keep an eye on 2nd hand items, but that will be later on. It's nice to just be able to get involved and stop using my phone!

That would have been my preference as the writes are very good and affordable for whts it is. Before I get "all the gear" id like to have a play so I can have "some idea!" Haha.

I was on the lookout for one of these the other day. I'm still a bit of a photography noob so this may be a silly question, but could somebody explain how using a 35mm prime lens is different to turning an 18-55mm zoom lens to ~35mm and using that? Probably thinking of the numbers all wrong but ah well :tongueout:

Advantages of a prime lens.
1. Optical quality
2. Aperture (i.e. better low light performance, bokeh etc)
3. Lens is smaller, lighter and cheaper.

@Mattty using a prime will make you think about composition more than anything as you will have to move about and have to think to get the shot you want.

The optical quality is often better and it will allow you to shoot in lower light.

Edit. Point 3 above is not always correct but quite often.
A 1.2 50mm canon lens is far from light when compared to a canon 18-55 for example due to the build quality. A 1.8 though is super light due to it mainly being plastic...

I'm also scoping out the Sigma 10-20. Just had a £350 bonus in work, but it's the Mrs 25th in the beginning of Feb :unamused:
