Warping Heater Fan - is it yet another typical Clio problem?

  172 Ph1/Scooby MY00
Typical problems like sticking throttle bodies, melting steering wheels and, serv and airbag warning lights are all well known. But is a warped radiator fan housing another one?

The housing on mine warped and eventually it's broke through the radiator. The fix is easy enough, take the fan off and if it is warped (it is easy to see) cut it away where the housing is getting too close to the radiator. Fit back on.

Too late for me, I had to buy a new radiator and 7 litres of Type D Coolant (then spend hours fitting the 'bar steward'!).

pretty sure mine must have done this when hot and goes back to original shape when cold. My rad had a hole where something was clearly rubbing on it, however upon inspection the fan housing was a good cm or so away so i can only think it must have been rubbing on it when hot.

yes a few people on here have had this issue including me! when i did mine i cut away that part of the shroud and then used washers to space it out away from the rad when i refit it

On mine it was warped hot or cold.

Yup common problem, we have done 3 or 4 rad replacements due to this very problem in the last couple of months. We replace the rad and trip the housing edge straight so that it won't reoccur.

Yeah, I did the right thing then. I trimmed the edge straight so it can't touch the radiator again. Cheap fix otherwise if it goes it'll cost at least £70 for a radiator and £15 for fluid.
