Warranty claims - Brake disc/pads/calliper

Hi,

I have a warranty repair in for my offside calliper - When it was in for service, they told me this was misaligned and agreed to change this under warranty.

However, I had to change the brake pads at the rear last week, the nearside one was 50% worn and the offside (where the miss alignment is) was 100% worn thus giving damage to my brake disc (scored/scraped etc). Metal to metal contact.

Do you think i have grounds to ask for a disc under this same claim? Or shall i just do it myself, full well knowing that i should have changed it loooonng before 100% worn, and its my own stupid fault?

The garage i am getting it done at is Sunderland (where i am originally from/ bought the car). i work away, so only get chance to go home now and again.

they never said anything about the disc at the time - however they did say the pad had enough life in it for a couple months

I would say you have slim to no chance of getting the Discs and Pads through a warranty claim.

Usually wear and year and in this instance will be classed as consequential.

That said unless you ask you won't know.

But a 'faulty caliper' has caused excessive wear on disc and pad. If you're going to agree that a part is faulty you have to rectify what other problems that the faulty part has caused.

Haha - ''It smells'' .. brilliant..

who's doing the work? I had my 200 in at benfield on the felling bypass in gateshead for them to look at my o/s/f calliper they had it in, checked it all out, checked my discs and pads whilst i was there too, invited me into the workshop whilst they where doing it and explained what was going on, turns out they just needed stripping and cleaning, which they done FOC .. can only say the service was brilliant.

Nope, you only have to fix said faulty part. Consequential damage is 'usually' excluded.

Its renault on the wessington way/bypass thingy...

I have nothing but hassle when i take it into renault, always end up on the phone to renault UK.. however, they do not know that i use the car on track so i guess i am to blame for it ultimately

I will certainly ask them and see what they say, i have kept the brake pad to show them etc. (I'll take a photo for you guys when i go back into car in the morning)

Just wondered where i stood... i'll try when i'm down next week!

cant see that think its wrong so cambelt snaps you just going to put a new belt and get the customer to pay for the valves?
sorry but its is rubbish pads normally wear because the seized in the housing.
if a caliper was sticking on and the car is under manufacturers warrenty and ruined the pads and disc warrenty would be paying how long have you been waiting for repair

they told me at christmas time (just after) it was starting to course an issue.

so about 2 months, but i aint been driving it for 2 months - Work in Aberdeen/offshore so away a reasonable amount - they also closed the renault up here and the closest is edinburgh / inverness (200miles), nightmare!

There are exceptions which is why I said 'usually'.

Using your example of a cam belt, this is a check item for most manufacturers at each service and any abnormal wear would be addressed under warranty of course, however if the relevant checks are not done and it goes taking the engine out, then good luck...

Have done over 10 years in the trade for a few manufacturers now working with various warrantys and seen many consequential damage claims kicked out.
