Warranty help please

  200 Gordini
Having a few little problems with the car so its being took to Sutton Park in Coventry but they are saying i will have to pay £80 for a diagnostic check.

The car is under a inchcape warranty i got with the car.

Issues are:

Emissions light
Burning smell from the engine bay (possibly the alternator)
Back box blowing
Exhaust mounts broke

Now Renault told me the exhaust issues will not be covered (even though the car has only done 20k) but the first 2 should be, right?

Is it right i have to pay the £80 diagnostic check?

Mids meet on saturday too :(

^yep

its not a manufacture warranty is it? if its from some random company you'll get sweet f**k all out of renault and the company, not worth the paper they're written on!

Its out of manufacturers warranty, the warranty you have is an extended warranty prob with the likes of motorcare. They will pay for the cost of the repair but they won't pay the diagnostic charges, the diag charges are normally 1hrs labour.
The exhaust won't be covered.

Its inchcape warranty from Renault in southampton.

Sutton Park were told to bill it to (iirc) Renault UK or something along those lines.

The warranty book says the alternator is covered but cant find anything about the diagnostic checks. Why does the warranty not cover these?

£80 is a joke when i can get it done elsewhere for £20 :quiet:

have a good luck at the terms and conditions, you can probably take it to any garage as long as they are VAT reg'd (check this first), so then you can find a place with a cheaper diag charge

You may be asked to pay the bill then claim back from the warranty underwritter/administrator - don't do this, make the selling dealer pay or make the repairing dealer invoice the warranty administrator direct

Belts etc won't be covered, although they should be replaced when removed, they haven't actually failed so you will be lucky to get these covered (unless the alt pulley has damaged the belt, then should be covered as consequential damage)

tbh the best thing is to take it back to the selling dealer and let them sort the claim out, if they are too far away just keep them involved in the whole claim

btw I work for a global warranty/insurance company in the motor claims dept.!

Just a little advice from Ive learnt where I currently work, your terms and conditions will most definately differ to ours but the basics will be pretty much the same

usually you only pay that if they check and its not covered by warranty to cover the hour labour charge.....but what ever it is and is covered by warranty there should be no charge......my car is covered by (autocare) Arnold Clark....and there changing the timing belt and water pump.today and tomorrow and because this is covered by warranty the £70 charge for 1hour labour is dropped.

hope this helps.

All helpful replies, thanks.

@123stevevw - The dealer i bought the car from is now closed, so i cant get them involved. They have said i wont need to pay for the parts or labour. the only thing i am liable for is the diagnostic checks.

Say i could take it to a VAT registered garage, would this just be for the checks or doing the work too?

Im off to read every last word regarding diagnostic checks.

It probably wont mention diag checks, when its says it covers parts and labour thats literally what it means, if says it covers diag, parts and labour then your laughing

Check you can use any vat reg'd garage before you take my word for it, like I said that is the norm but you must check your own individual terms, If you can use any vat reg'd garage then yeah they can diag it and do the work but MAKE SURE they call the warranty company once they've diag'd the fault but BEFORE they replace any parts

It does just say 'parts and labour'

On the 'How to claim' page it says:

If you cannot take the vehicle to the inchcape dealership... Take your vehicle to another reputable repairer...

'Take your vehicle to another reputable repairer...' Whats does this meeean lol I think im just going to ring them

thats why we use VAT reg'd garages for our warranties, although there are some good non vat reg'd garages out there, the majority are "freds in sheds" who can't gaurentee their work. VAT reg'd garage should be fine, ring and check though, also ask if there is a maximum labour rate p/hour that they will pay if you don't use an Inchcape dealer

Explain how its a pain in the arse to use an Inchcape dealer as the nearest one has closed down etc etc

the £80 is for one hours labour for the diag. they will only charge you for the amount of time they spend loking at it. if the diagnosis is made in 0.1 then they will charge you 0.1 and the extended warranty will cover the actual repair.
