Web Design Problem

Hi all,
A bit of a strange questions but here it goes..

When accessing documents (word, excel etc) that are stored on a network drive, they open in an IE window. This is causing the filename (as seen in the start bar when the app is minimized) to not show the doc name. It instead shows the path of the network drive. This is causing confusing over which documents people have open.

Is there any way to get round this? I'm thinking along the lines of somekind of name tag in the HTML or similar?

Thanks,
-TS

Network drives are just normal drives.

Files shouldn't open in any web browser unless they are associated?

Are they on a web server or just a normal network share? :S

If it's a normal network share - something's wrong, heh.

A normal network share. It does it on my home XP system too. You get the MS Word stuff but within an IE Window with the Back/FOrward, Faves buttons etc.

Something's broke, because it should just use the normal associations, which mean Word opens in Word etc.. shouldn't be wrapped up in IE at all.. :S

Ah bollox, I forgot to say that I am opening them from a link in a web page!! DOH, sorry bud!

Yeah, we basically have an HTML page with links to all the popular word and excel files. When we click the link, they open as described above.

Ah, that makes sense. ;)

Don't think you can do what you want - the title bar is the full URL, and there isn't a way to strip it down.

Best way, is have a network drive, with a shortcuts to the files in a folder (Like, H:\Popular\) of the popular ones - seems a better way to do things - then you get rid of IE totally. Just name the shortcuts appropriatly.
