Weird, been driving all day and suddenly.. Battery dead?

And i mean DEAD. won't even lock itself.
NO radio on nothing. Popped into homebase came out, it let me in, then died.
Finally got a chap to give me a jump start, popped to some other places andkept engine running, just got home, turned car off, went to turn it on and this time lights on the dash won't even come on, its like the battery is disconnected... any ideas?
Its been fine up t o now..

Alternators shagged most probably. Mine does this every now and then, ill just go to start it up an everything goes dead, all i do is fiddle with the negative wire connected to the battery. make sure thats tight and it starts up.

No battery light came on all day?

Does sound like alternator's screwed and the battery has run down as it's not been getting charged

Can you swap another battery on and stick this one on charge overnight? Or, if you can get to a halfords, they have a battery tester thing to see if the batteries fubared.

took the negative off, banged it about a bit and the car started working fine lol

Mine does the same occasionally, have to get it jump started. Is it literally just a fiddle around with the negative? Un screw or just move it a bit?

Lol its weird aint it, i wonder why it does it but i aint a clue. it always does it at the worst times aswel, like when im on a petrol forecourt or outside a takeaway lol i look like a RIITEEE muppet.

Haha it happens everywhere, mainly the worst times though, like in college, just when everyone is pooring out of college walking past my car! And in busy areas in town, and when I have friends in the car!
I just hate the unpredictability. Everytime I turn the engine off now I pray that it'll start!

lol same here pal. college is the worst, i by the time iv opened the bonnet an messed with it i always end up at tha back of the que in the car park an takes hout 20 mins to get out lol.

On my old mk1 it used to do it but the cobra alarm used to go off so id be trying to sort it out whilst the alarm was blasting off an that just made everyone stop an look lol

My last car (106 Rallye S1)'s alternator died on me, but I had no battery warning light come on......no idea why......

Check where the earth strap bolts to the car chassis. Bet its either loose, or badly corroded. I would un bolt it, clean up the area (course sandpaper file etc) then re attatch
