i want my comp to boot straight to my desktop when i switch it on, not showing the Welcome screen/classic logon prompt when it boots up, anyone know how to switch it off?
Yes you can do it, simplest was is using the application called TweakUI from Microsoft. This program lets you access loads of things that you can't normally get to easily and one of the options is to automatically load to the desktop using a particular user account.
That is true, this happend to me. All i did was delete the .Net logon account. If you are running more than 1 account XP will automatically stop at the welcome screen for log in. However using just 1 account means it will automatically work and login in.
To delete .net account - Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Select non default one -> Delete account
