Went to look at 200 today

  Elise 111R
Unfortunately the 'RS' dealer in Edinburgh only has 1 twingo in and 1 225 Megane..... no 200's?

wtf?

Apparently a lad has just bought the only 200 they had and wont be getting another for 10 days.......... what made me laugh was i was blunt (tbh) with the salesmen and said i didnt want to spend 17 - 18k and was looking to spend 15k max..... he said (breathing in).... well you know... there aren't many out there so prices are really strong so you'll be waiting a year to get one at that price for a basic 200?

So for the scottish folk on here wheres the nearest grown up RS dealer near Edinburgh... i know i'm not going to get Lotus / M dealer manners but don't want to feel i'm buying from amateurs...

Thanks

Tom

have u tried the renault garage at seafield? did u go to sighthill??

When I went to test drive a 200, the salesman didnt know the difference between a 200 and a 200 Cup. All the dealers in my area are idiots. One had never heard of a 172.
Which is why I refuse to give them any more of my money. Rather take my business to someone who knows atleast the basics, hence why I travelled little under 200 miles to get my 200 Cup :p

There isn't an RS dealer in Edinburgh. :S

Ness (Perth and Inverness) are where it's at.

Stay the f'k away from any other dealers.

It might be a little drive to ness but they are worth it. I've had first hand s**t experience from Renault Edinburgh and the RS dealer in Glasgow.

Same lol, I was looking at a cup packed one but the one he gave me a test drive in was no cupped. He said there was no difference in ride lol

Thanks guys, yer it was a new to 12 month old used car i was after.

It was Sighthill who told me they were a RS centre now..... i also live in Portsmouth who ARE a RS centre so was expecting much more to clamber over and poke at.

I was either going for a ride tomorrow at Glentress or taking a drive up that way in the Elise so might check it out. Looking on autotrader there isnt much really north of Newcastle? There's two over in Glasgow but the kit on the cars is really poor.

Go to the one a Seafield. I went down for a look six months ago. Spoke to a sales guy called Robin. He knew his stuff and didn't bull-s**t. Showed me round the place and had a chat for about 30 mins. I wasn't buying, which he knew as I told him straight off. Still took the time to talk to me though.

Sighthill is a waste of time. They should bring it down with the flats along the road.

Hmm Sighthill doesn't come up on renaultsport uk as being a certified RS dealer.

Avoid the black 200 in Glasgow. Its been clocked and abused like f'k.

And SC03OTT, I went to Seafield and they flat out refused a test drive on a used 200. Thing is...I ended up ordering a brand new one I liked it that much. They missed a trick there I think.

Why does it matter where you buy it from? Not like they actually make it, just get it from the cheapest dealer?

Sighthill just became an RS dealer a couple of weeks ago I was in having a test drive in the 200 cup they just sold.

Because if their salesmanship is poor god only knows what the service guys are going to be like especially if you need to get things corrected after collecting your 15k+ car.

Thanks for the advice so far

You'd go to a Specilaist for a service, so that irelivant.

All fine untill you realise they dont actually know the product they sold. (yes it happened to me). Then to top it off I had to explain to their 'renultsport' technician why his idea wouldn't work.

Specialists do warranty now do they?

And since when do you have to take the car to where your bought it from for warranty work?

do you work for the glasgow rs dealership?

Living in the lake district, no...

Edit: If they were to cover my fuel costs im sure i could go work there..

And since when do you have to take the car to where your bought it from for warranty work?

This is also true, most people will take it back to the dealership, but we get the occasional car in for warranty work..

Atleast you guys can haggle and go to different dealers in search of a better deal. I only have one dealer and the other option is to import and that is one good mess lol.

  Elise 111R
Ok went across to the other Edinburgh dealer and much much better facilities.

Had a red non cup car at 17.5 and a black cup demo for 17 both with Recaro seats and not much else spec wise.

So all good so far.. however here comes the BUT - apparently Arnold Clark have a policy whereby i need to go through how i'm financing the car and 'agree in principle' (with a £100 deposit) before i test drive any car. This is to avoid putting miles on the cars...... (but in reality i expect to deter boy racers)

LOL......... i'm 26 not 18 so tbh they can go and get f**ked i really can't be bothered with f**king Arnold Clark..... bunch of cheap ass salesmen pushing you into a deal.

The only thing not telling him where to go was that i'm polite and it wouldn't of made much difference.

As you can tell thats not the whole story as to why i was so annoyed and put off.

Anyway a red 200 does look good but 17.5k for a clio is a bit bum clenching of a price isnt it... i'm thinking a nice 182 in silver or rb with HK coilovers and speedline alloys for a third of the price would be money better spent.

Lol and I'm giving thought to spending 22k on the 200 rs 20th anniversary edition.
Ef it we only live once!

  Elise 111R
Thats true but then reality hits and you loose 5 - 7k in the first year or two.

Don't like doing it tbh but i wonder how many 182's are left unabused?

  Suzuki Jimny
As new 197 for around £10k would do TBH.

£100 for a test drive? f**king con artists!

  Elise 111R
Wow hang on lads right it wasn't pay £100 for a test drive but an implied we'll only take you serious if your happy to sit for an hour to work out a deal then secure that by paying a nominal amount (£100).

But yer f**king joke imo

  260% JCW
Still think they're having a laugh, what if after all the paper work and £100 you hate the car for what ever reason. Do you get the £100 back?

  clio 200 ly
Itest drove two focus rs' from arnold clark newcastle without even discussing a deal.....and i was 21 at the time!
I did go in knowing more than the dealer tho lol

  Elise 111R
Think the issue is that i'm being honest and saying upfront i'm not looking to buy today etc not an age thing.

Anyway 200's are growing on me more and more but saying that my Elise was perfect for a blast today in the hills around Edinburgh....

These prices sound very steep to me... Have 200's gone up in price (apart from the VAT rise I mean)?

  Nissan 350z
No i think around £17k for none cup is the usual Renault price right? As its £15k for a Cup.
