What’s quicker

  Shhh

1.2 16v is 75bbhp

1.5dci is 80bhp.

All depends on the driver, if your rolling, if its wet and what tyres your running etc.

Why, you making a list of cars you can burn off.? Well i had a 1.2 16v expression before my clio and i did drive it hard, but i thought about fuel ecomony. If you bought a car to race, or too burn cars off then you should of bought something with a little more hp than a lawnmower...

  Ziel Nurburgring

Round corners fred would beat a 182!

1.2 0-60= 13 MPG=47 combi

DCI 0-60= 12.2 MPG=67 combi

Cause i looked it up on the renault site

AliasOmega,

Not worried about being able to burn her off as my friend is more interested in her hair brush then her horsepower.

In regard to my car having the horsepower of a lawnmower, you must bear in mind that being a 19 year old student having to pay for my insurance, its alot easier said then done to get the fabled 172/182!

James,

Was referring to overall performance, round track, acceleration in gears, etc

Would I be right to assume that performance is fairly similar between the 2 cars? More dependant on the driver with such a small difference?

Its not all about BHP. Torque is what pulls you along and the diesel will have more

the diesel IS quicker, will pull a 1/4 mile in the mid 17s, the 1.2 16v has never broken into the 17s AFAIK

The 1.2 16v might not have the power of a ferrari but if you sort out the suspension and brakes you can play with some bigger engined cars round the twisties or a track no probs, i can stay pretty close to my mates C2 VTR round some of our local back roads and all ive got performance wise is a full stainless cat back and a K&N panel filter.

The DCIs arent that much quicker due to them being a bit heavier but they do have a good bit more torque than the petrol engines.

The dcis are a LOT quicker. Maybe not from a standing start, but on the road a 1.2 stands no chance.

Dcis also make cracking m-way munchers.

  172, Tiguan

My old DCi 65 felt quicker than any 1.2 16v courtesy cars I get, and believe me Ive had a few!!

I really liked my dci 80, but my journeys never really made the best of it.
Yeah decent for motorway eh, what you drivin now mate?

Valver. I got pissed off with all the w**k gadgets and toys on the dci that dont really work well enough for them to be there in the 1st place.

That and I got bored of not having revs to play with.

Id deffo have another dci for work/site visits etc though.

I test drove the 1.6 before buying the dci 80. I went for the 80 because with 3 people in the car the 1.6 was too wheezy, whereas the dci still went without complaining.

Freebone,

You and I both know that a 182 Cup will absolutely trounce a Valver! Having a part-job to cover insurance for 1.2 16V Dynamique whilst being a student means ill stick with it until graduation. Then will be living back home with the parents, so 172 MK 2 or 182 will be done!

Forget HP torque is where its at.

But the Dci prob has a crap rev range.
Dont always look at the direct comparisons to a petrol motor. Yes the rev band will obviously be alot narrower. But we re talking about a 1.5 DCI which is generating as much torque as a 1.8-2.0lt petrol. Also go back 10years and see what diesels you could buy. Ford Escort 1.8TD (90bhp / 133lbft ) this is almost the same as you can get now from a smaller, quieter and more efficient engine this is a massive step forward. In terms of like for like engine capacity the diesel will always have more torque, which means you can give them much higher gearing to overcome the narrow band and still keep the speed up. Slightly off topic the Ibiza 130TDI is pulling almost 80mph at 2000rpm in 6th, those revs also correspond exactly to 229 lb/ft of torque ready to push you forward should you be driving somewhere this is possible. You just have to adopt your driving style and not rev them to death as you will gain nothing.

yeah i know they would trounce a valver but i have just moved from a mark 1 rt and they are so much fun to drive

each to there own though and i understand why youve got what you have, uni sucks money wise

Hes got to be carefull with his words because my old valver crept past a mk1 172 - all tried and tested!

  Renaultsport Mégane R26

truer words never spoken. was so tempted to use student loan on a 172, was even in Reg Vardy in Leeds looking at what they had!

  tiTTy & SV650

why are people so against 182s?! I never had one when I was a student and if you do then your folks have too much money or youre doing something illegal!

My mate spent all his student loan (4 years worth) on a brand 1.2 Extreme, whereas I spent £1500 on a 205gti when I was at uni and I have no regrets. Now that Im working and can afford it I have a 182 - cause I wanted new car piece of mind (due to having a lot more on my plate these days than I did as a student...) and as far as quick new cars go its the best value for money out there.

And as far as the original topic goes, the DCi being more powerful would be quicker if the same weight... I dont know the weights but the extra torque the DCi has should see of the 1.2 petrol Id think.

the plot thickens! i think standard valver v 182 cup would be no competition!
the 182 would win all day long standard against standard.

I always use my old valver to compare but it had a few things done to it.

  tiTTy & SV650

id never buy a new 1.2 anything, get an old 205gti or similar and save a fortune!

I see people on this site calling 182s ghey n stuff cause all the electronics and driver aids... I agree they aint as raw as a Williams or a Valver or a 205gti but if you can afford and want it go for it.

Personally I think my 205gti handled better than my 182 - and I hate power steering...

Im off topic here and going off on tangents so will stop my rant now.

  The Jinx

182 to valver on the road with corners wont that much different at all. People forget that on the road with corners narrows down quite big performance differences.

  tiTTy & SV650

and I dont care whats quicker at the end of the day, my 182 isnt the fastest car in the world but its pretty quick!

to be fair to the chap this is getting out of hand, i never meant to compare the valver and 182, the thread was bout a 1.2 and a dci so lets stop spamming

lol

Right, off to buy a lottery ticket...

Speak to you all tomorrow when the Black V6 255 is sitting on the drive (next to the Ferrari 575M of course)

  megane coupe F7R

I reckon the 1.2 would have the dci off the lights but once rolling the dci would sail past easily due to the amount of torque.

Valvers rule!!:p

  Yaris Hybrid

I owned two 1.2 16vs before I had my Vectra and then the 182. When my 182 broke down before delivery I was given a DCI 80 courtesy car.

If I were getting another cheap car I would definitely get the DCI. It felt way quicker than the 1.2, more so under 60 as I think over 60 there wasnt that big a difference. Pulling out of junctions the DCI is just miles ahead, I didnt know which engine it was at first and I assumed it was a DCI 100! If that wasnt enough it was doing 70 to 80mpg and I just liked the characteristics of the engine.

It was actually quite enjoyable to drive whereas a 1.2 is a bit annoying to me now.
