AliasOmega,
Not worried about being able to burn her off as my friend is more interested in her hair brush then her horsepower.
In regard to my car having the horsepower of a lawnmower, you must bear in mind that being a 19 year old student having to pay for my insurance, its alot easier said then done to get the fabled 172/182!
The 1.2 16v might not have the power of a ferrari but if you sort out the suspension and brakes you can play with some bigger engined cars round the twisties or a track no probs, i can stay pretty close to my mates C2 VTR round some of our local back roads and all ive got performance wise is a full stainless cat back and a K&N panel filter.
The DCIs arent that much quicker due to them being a bit heavier but they do have a good bit more torque than the petrol engines.
Yeah decent for motorway eh, what you drivin now mate?Quote: Originally posted by Swervin_Mervin on 06 April 2005
I really liked my dci 80, but my journeys never really made the best of it.
Dont always look at the direct comparisons to a petrol motor. Yes the rev band will obviously be alot narrower. But we re talking about a 1.5 DCI which is generating as much torque as a 1.8-2.0lt petrol. Also go back 10years and see what diesels you could buy. Ford Escort 1.8TD (90bhp / 133lbft ) this is almost the same as you can get now from a smaller, quieter and more efficient engine this is a massive step forward. In terms of like for like engine capacity the diesel will always have more torque, which means you can give them much higher gearing to overcome the narrow band and still keep the speed up. Slightly off topic the Ibiza 130TDI is pulling almost 80mph at 2000rpm in 6th, those revs also correspond exactly to 229 lb/ft of torque ready to push you forward should you be driving somewhere this is possible. You just have to adopt your driving style and not rev them to death as you will gain nothing.Quote: Originally posted by Matt16v on 06 April 2005
Forget HP torque is where its at.
But the Dci prob has a crap rev range.
the 182 would win all day long standard against standard.Quote: Originally posted by daverichmond1 on 06 April 2005
the plot thickens! i think standard valver v 182 cup would be no competition!
