What engines will fit my MK1 1997 Facelift?

  mk1 ph2 clio
Bought it a few weeks ago for £370, 90,000 miles, no damage, taxed and mot'd, everything fine. Just finished putting few new parts on it and now thinking about changing the engine to a 1.4, 1.6 rsi, anything bigger that will fit (It's a 1.2 8v atm) I know the chassis is a bit different on the face-lift models so figured this would effect how many different engines i can put in it, but looking to put any size engine in it, aslong as its bigger.
Anyone know what engines will fit? Whether its from a clio, a R5 or anything else. 1.4 or above. Cheers

Will have pics up soon with new mods when i get my camera back from a mate (smoothed, lowered 55mil all round on coilovers, black alloys, leather seats, omp steering wheel and hks sunstrip and pressed euro plates)

To justify that exhaust, you'd need the 6.5l V12, from an LP640.

You will need bespoke engine mounts, though.

It goes in pretty easily, actually.

Securing the lump with zip-ties is you best bet. Less vibration through the structure.

You'd need the Miura V12 for a clio.

Re-Engineering it to longitudinal would be a bit more complex

Hence the Miura engine for ease of installation.

Thats mine before i fitted it to the 182.

Quite surprising how easy it was tbh. Notice the Diff makes it easier to get some custom driveshafts made up.

You forgot?!!

Do you know how many minutes i put into the 182 SV project?

PM Justin.

He has a Lambo engine in his car. So does Kissmyrs too now I think.

Cheers, wheres the best place to get the engine from? cant imagine there to be many lambo breakers? and a rough cost? Was only after a 1.* - 2.0 but if i can afford it all then might as well get some lambo power in it ! See what i can afford, cause would need new brakes etc, and the running cost. PM'd Justin.

How much did you pay for the engine? and anything else you had to change? removed your image from the quote so the thread is a bit quicker to open etc.

Yeah, but i had to run it from a pulley from the drive shaft, so the gas only pumps when you move forwards. Its a compromise im willing to live with.

cby, if you want more details i'd be happy to help.

I got that Engine from Mario at Specialist Italian breakers in Northallerton for £1800

I might have just shat myself.

Tom, did you manage to engineer a front clamshell? Like the Miura's rear. Does it lift forwards for easy access?

Hard to do?

I needed some custom driveshafts/engine mounts TBR did all my work.

Sales@TBR.com

Because of the carbs there was no management issues, just needed a forced induction fuel pump from a Civic EP3

I might have just shat myself.

No, it just bolted in.

Its almost spooky.

£2000 is just about my budget for the car including everything else i need to finish on it, which is about another £600, and would need to pay for the fitting, only ever fitted suspension, wheels and tyres, body kits etc wouldnt want to jump in with an engine conversion by myself just yet. Other money was going to go on a house of kolor re-spray but think a new engine would be more beneficial

Any other engines that i can get for a tad cheaper?

Tom's is a cracking example of what can be achieved by a clio. I'm surprised more people haven't made this conversion.

Mario's a good lad, both Tom an I have used him.

I'd go as far as to say he's an all-star chap.

There's no 1-up-manship with him. He's as straight as they come.

Will do, will have better/updated pics up soon. Looks nice, and it's my first car (that i've had legally on the road, had a 306 dturbo to work on before) so want to make the most of it.

Waiting to put some Lenso BSX alloys on, or ats cups just got to sell my other rims, then its all finished and on to the engine!

I think I still have the read only documentation data on my old Clio Williams aircraft engine conversion :

Aircraft_engine_IP&W_JT9D.jpg

I used the P&W JT9D, but with a bit of playing around, the JT12 would actually fit snuggly next to the washer tank. You need the uprated clutch and flywheel to benefit from the torque increase of around 30,000%.

Keep us updated, mate. Sounds like a great project. The Lambo is one of the highest spec engines to fit straight in under the bonnet. A Ferrari clone requires so much work.

A jet engine in a clio?

Really. You must be taking the mickey!

So many haterz tbh, this is what its like on here when you have lambo power.

Nice conversion!

Did you buy your JT9D from Specialist Aircraft Breakers?

Speak to Howard Hughes?... he's in the parts department, right?

would a williams engine fit my car?
any phase.
id be happy with a 1.4 lol but the bigger the better

I sold it a few months later and got a 182. Then sold that for a P1, and now the WR1. Never the same feeling :dapprove:

What's the WR1 like? it going to be a verrryyy long time til i can insure one but looking for a skyline or a scooby when i can.
just going to get a new clio ever year until then, 1.6 rsi next hopefully or a mk2, then cliosport til i can get a williams, cant beat em in my opinion

  mk1 ph2 clio
also does anyone ever see the mk2 1.4 diesels about?
my dad used to have one, think it was an 02 not the quickest of cars but good on fuel and still nippy enough. looked into buying one but couldnt find a good example of one anywhere
