What have you done to your car today ???

  182 Inferno Orange
Last weekend I fitted at PMS exhaust, BC racing coilovers and a stud/nut conversion kit. New exhaust is infinitely better than the abomination that was on it. Previous exhaust was a right mish mash with multiple leaks from unnecessary joints!

Finally out of hibernation last week as I sold the Jay-Cup a.k.a the fun-vee. First clean of the year and had a quick tinker, changed the dash for non sticky central console along with hazard switch panel and stereo. Turini's look really good when they are clean. Forgotten how well they drive in near standard form, its like being in a church on the road compared to the other one.

Bought a cambelt kit for my car as it was too cheap to give up even though it’s not due till 2027.

I do have a question though, does anyone know what this bag of nuts and washers is for?

IMG_9508.jpeg

One of them looks identical to the crank bolt I have in a separate bag but the slim one at the bottom I don’t recognise as with the long thick one at the top left.

Also I might as well buy a new crank pulley in the process as the one on the car the rubber is beginning to perish, should I buy a keywayed Megane one or stick with an oe Clio one? And no doubt I’ll need a water pump too.

Fitted a new passenger side driveshaft as the old one had a massive hole in the inside CV boot.

Not actually today. A couple of days ago had the Big service at Birchdown.
Both belts, aux belt tensioner, thermostat, water pump and spark plugs. Total round trip of 4hrs 15mins. I hate the M6 ☹️
Back to Birchdown today to fit a new passenger side drive shaft and new Redline MTL gearbox oil.

Popped my gear box off to finally getting around to sorting the issue I had with the clutch and found the thrust bearing in this condition.....

Then i had the thought of 'Lets take some small bits off to get them powder coated'

What started with a simple task of 'taking small bits off' turned into 'the block looks like it could do with a good clean and a paint' and now we're here...

So the engines going to have a complete overhaul, along with suspension and braking components.

Should probably start a project thread at this stage really...

Which way do you go down there?

I've always gone down the M56, come off at Junction 10 at Stretton and then taken the back roads down to Malpas - going via Oulton Park, Tarporley and Bulkeley. Granted, I still need to go on a bit of the M6, but not that much.

Much nicer drive than spending too much time on motorways.

That's actually the way I went last time. I always put it in Google maps in case there are any problems. It's the first time it's taken me that way.
Normally I've gone down the M56 then M53. That's the way I went a couple of weeks ago when I had the cambelt / aux belt service.
It took me around 1hour 45 mins both routes. It is nicer route like you say.

Bought this recently. Quick service - it also needs a new wiper motor and linkage. Cv boot leaking grease everywhere too. The joy.

Girlfriend’s Twingo’s Decals had started to fade and peel off in random areas.

So spent the best part of yesterday and this morning removing the old ones and fitting some replacements.

(Yes my neighbour has a Focus RS)

Done a bit of work on my mates Amc ls turbo drag car.

It hit boost cut the other day in top gear when testing. Previous owner had started fitting a co2 boost controller and pipework bit all over the place. Piped wastegate up to turbo housing and overboost was cured but boost too low around 6-7psi when its mapped for 15psi.

His laptop is broke so couldnt set up a mac valve and hes booked up to run at doorslammers this weekend. Map on it appears to be safe so went oldskool and stuck a bleed valve on it. Bleed valve worked great and boost was turned up to 12psi after a bit of road testing. Fuelling was safe as houses in the mid 11s. No idea on power but its done a 10sec qtr previously and it certainly goes well.

Tonight's job will be removing the never ending army of bugs that have decided to die on my windscreen. I gave it a thorough clean only Friday, but you can't tell. I don't remember it being this bad in recent years!

Sorted out the flickering dash fog light issue when braking. The n/s rear cluster screw had been tightened by the Hulk so it was a bit concerning trying to undo it. Found one of the connections was a bit furry so clean with sandpaper and a little WD was applied. Also sorted out that tight screw. All good now.

My Cup was at Birchdown today for a service. The engine mounts hadn't arrived so they just fitted a used top engine mount that I had. It's not solved the problem so all the mounts will be changed for new items in a few weeks time. It's a much stiffer item that my worn one as I can feel a bit of a vibration at idle, but it's not poly-bushed. They found out that a rear Toyo tyre is causing the strange humming noise from the back as it's a tiny bit out of shape, but I'm not changing tyres yet as there's loads of tread left. I'll live with the hum as it only does it at around 35 mph.
The rear calipers are not great so they will fit a pair of refurbed items and new cables when it goes back in.
