What phase is your clio & how do u tell?!

  E39 530i
I've got a clio 172 Y reg. I would like to know what phase/mk it is? How do i find this out? I've also got a gear shift light which dosen't come on when driving hard, I know u've got 2 push hard in order for it 2 show but it doesn't show. Mayb my 1999 Y reg 172 doesn't have one. Can u confirm?

lol there are a few big threads on this, don't think anyone ever agrees, I would class yours as a 172 MKI, and I don't believe your model has the gear change indicator. Comes in at around 7,000rpm when warm on my 172 MKII, you would have seen it if you have it

Same as mine mate its a Phase One Renault Sport Clio 172 does have a shift light in green lhs side of clocks on mine.

lol I stand corrected on the green light business, just thought someone told me it wasn't there, err drive harder lol

You have a Renault Clio Mk2 Ph1... BUT ...it is also known (as you have a RenaultSport) as the Mk1 172 or RS1

Hey, I know its not a real 'RS' but all i said is what its know as.. which it is!

Confusing!!?? It's had an Engine remap could this be the cause why the light doesn't show? Believe me I can't drive her any harder, ive pushed and pushed and doesn't show. Could it be a fusewhich has gone??

Jimmy m8 it is a real RS, original = best! Oh and ive just opened a hoooooooooooooooooooooooooge can ofadult maggots!! :)

What I meant is that the Fords are the only cars to offically be called RS's.

He says that because everyone thinks that the RenaultSport thyey own is th best!

ooer yes mate should also come on with the ignition sequence with the resr of the dash lights, green gearstick n gaiter image

  Clio 172
The first 172 is Mk 2 Phase 1, then the facelifted one is the Phase 2.[/QUOTE]

agreed, that's how I understand it.

Yep, little green thing on the left hand side of the clocks.

Some very early 172 phase 1s (early W reg) didn't have this light so I'm told.

Don't know why I put 1999 as the reg?! Must of been high or something, Got the green light it just doesn't come on.

I'll do without.

Mine is a "Y" 2001 Mk2 Ph1/Mk1 172/RS-1 and it doesnt have a shift light or an alloy bonnet...

I dont need a gay ass light to tell me when to change gear!

Just to confuse you totally:

There's quite a bit of difference actually Jesus.

Chassis, Suspension, manifold, ECU.... all changed iirc.

It's on the original Renault blurb for it's release.... looking for it atm...

It's defo the Phase III, same with the rest of the range, when they got the different design fogs that's the Phase III.

I know what you mean. It's like the Mk1 Phase 1 and 2, they look very similar, yet the 3 looks noticeably different.

The same for the Mk2 Phase 1, the Phase 2 looks very different yet is still the same car underneath, with a few more changes.

Not at all, silver belts were standard in the Ph1 172, no idea why they changed them in the next revision :S

As for the rest of it well Honda once said "hate something... change something"

  1.6 Focus, 1.6 122S
yeah but they went on to say "make something better" :p

edit: I know this is sad.. but look at my post count! i'm soo 1337

Well I never knew that. Have to say I prefer the dark ones, but can't understand why they changed them either. For the sake of it proabaly.

If I bought a phase 1 RS and applied hondas theory there wouldn't be much Phase 1 left. lol.
