What setup shall i go for

Ok all you ICE people i need some help. At the moment i have a panasonic MD headunit with 50X4 watt power, running some vibe components in the front and a set of MB Quarts 6X9s in a stealth shelf.

It sound OK but isnt realy good enough, as the sound isnt that clear or sharp.

I listen to rock music and dance music the most. So need to get the bass sounding sharp and punchy aswell as deep.

What sort of setup would you recommend and which makes????

erm, ditch the 6x9s, replace the fronts if u want with abetter set of components, focal, JL, audio bahn, mb quart are all good makes.

do u have the speakers on an amp ??? if not get a amp to power the fronts, and if u after sub and amp, audio bahn make good subs, i personally like JL W3 subs, for punchy base 10" is probably better but 12" is fine 15" are for more low bass. Then u would need an amp for the sub, best speak to evil ice he would be able to point u in the right direction.

Hi phil, ive had a few subs and the one ive got at the moment is awesome and would reccomend it to anyone. Its a 15" (so u get the wide range of bass) Lightning audio 500 watt RMS , 1000watt peak subwoofer. i have a JBL 400 watt 2 channel sub running it and it makes the outside of my car shake but its sharp, i also have a jensen 220 watt amp running some pioneer 240 watt 6*9s and my alpine 150watt door speakers and my headuint is running the standard tweeters and some 180watt pioneers in the rear panels. i mean, u dont have to go as mental as i have! but i reccomend the lightning audio sub, ive had JBL, Infinity but this one kicks ass, i got it for £130 but its money well spent if u want quality, bass and a wide range of bass notes.

Cheers lads, Rich i will have a look into that sub but im not too sure on going for 15". I was realy thinking of a 10" sub but would i still need some speakers in the rear if i have comps up front and sub in the back? If so is it best to get some coaxles in the rear panels??

Right then. I would suggest going for some amped up 6.5" components in the front. Something from Audiobahn, MB Quart or a pair of a new range of speakers that we are doing from AVI will do the job there. As a pointer AVIs are right up there with Focal and DLS but cost less and are hand built in Canada...nice!!

I would definately stick with a 10" sub if its fast paced music that you like. There are a few good subs out there that wont set you back too much and have good quality. Something like a Kicker Comp, JLW3 or anything from the Audiobahn range will do the job...I usually find that 1x10" sub isnt really enough for volume though...you could do with 2.

For the rest of the system, it depends what you like really. Some people (like myself) prefer to have a bit of rear fill in the car so you could either get some replacement coaxials in the back (best to stick with the same make as the fronts), or move your 6x9s to the rear quarters..although unless done carefully, they may overpower the components.

my recommendation would be a Boston 10LF Pro sub, you are looking at around £200 for the sub, then all you need to do it find a amp to power it, and may i recommend either genesis or audison, both produce excellent quality amps

I havent seen that yet Malice. I might have to invest in a copy of the mag. Im supposed to be on their free mailing list but nothing ever comes through.

Ive heard a couple of sets of AVIs and im well impressed and the prices are going to be very very competitive. Were hoping to get a set fitted in a car for Max Power Live but we might be struggling..too busy!!

IT WAS JUST U SAID U WANTED A WIDER RANGE OF BASS, DANCE MUSIC SOMETIMES HAVE LOWER BASS IN IT, STUFF TO MAKE YOUR NOSE ITCH! IF U GO FOR A 12 RATHER THAN A 10 U WILL GET A LITTLE BIT MORE WIDE RANGE U SEE.

I would say go for a single 12" sub to start off with because I personally think that that sized sub in a boxed that is matched to the sub would be better as it will cater for all different kinds of music so doesnt matter if you start listening to anything different, coz 10s are really punchy but cant handle long bass notes really & 15s arent very punchy & are very good for long bass notes so a 12" would be perfect I reckon

& as for a choice of subwoofer, I would suggest the directed studio 12", very good sub & an even better price! & upgrade your componants to! 6.5" sized woofer/mid might be a better choice. As for choices, I would say Focal would be definetly the best to go for for front speakers. I personally have the Poly Kevlar 3 Way componant set & they amazing, however alot of work is needed to fit these in any car! (unless you own a porsche!!!) So I would stick to 2 way componants & focal polyglass 165v2s are very good! But It all depends on what your budget is mate! If you give a budget, I can suggest a number of different models of speakers, but if you just want a make, then I would say Focal or some PG.

& make sure you amp up your front componants, because if you choose the right amp, you are looking at a serious improvement in sound quality & overall loudness. As for you 6*9s, Move them away from the parcel shelf if you are putting a sub in your boot, Stick them in your rear quarter panels if you can, otherwise sell them on. I had 6*9s in the rear quarter panels in my last motor, & it actually complements 6*9s, & this is coming from me (who is not a good fan of the speaker!!) They werent overwhelming, but did create that surround sound effect by producing some rear fill, However, it took a bit of work to fit them in there. & of course, I had to create an enclosure for them!

Cheers everyone. As for a budget well i was hoping £250 max for sub amp and components. I know this isnt much but i just want something that will sound very good for me to listen to, not to go over the top. I might be able to go a bit higher if i can sell my current stealth shealf and 6X9s. Anyone?

I would probably go for it without any rear speakers to start with and then put them in if i need them.

So what makes and models should i go for do you recon?

Depending on what sort of sub you want, I was in Charlie Browns today and I saw a 12" JBL sub ready boxed and carpetted for £89. Sub-bing that up wouldnt be too bad.

Well to start off with, how much would you be selling you shelf & 6*9s for? What MB Quarts 6*9s are they exactly? I might know someone that would be interested. What clio have you got or will the stealth shelf fit all mark clios?

for £250, its a hard choice, because I wouldnt spend less than £130 on a half decent set of front componants. If you could stretch to £300 maybe £350 then I would suggest the following.... which is a sub amp (monoblock) 12" sub & front componants (Which will run off ur head unit for now)

Cheers mate i will have a look at that stuff. I ent sure what model the speakers are at the mo as i cant find the box. Its a 1996 mark1 phase 3 clio so i expect it will fit in all mark 1s not sure on a price as i havnt thought about it. What would your mate pay?
