how much shall i put my car up for? 2003 182 conversion

  '03 182 replica -for sale
I have owned the car less then a month, and having spent over £1500 getting it running perfect and adding some finishing touches, I can't really afford to keep it, and car parking isn’t easy in the city centre of Bristol and essentially, I just don’t need it as I get a free bus pass with my student accommodation rent.

It started out in life as a 2003 1.2L Dynamique Billabong. The car has undergone a complete re-haul 3 months ago!
The guy that done most of the work owned a garage and this was his project, he sold the car soon after completing it as his wife fell pregnant and had to buy more of a 'family' car.

The donor car was a 54 plate 182, having only done 34k which I can provide the reg plate for.

Renault love it, they think it’s really interesting the amount of work that’s gone into it, they say everything has been changed under the bonnet from a 182 apart from the battery tray! This includes the engine, gearbox, driveshafts, ECU, subframe and exhaust manifold.
Also, all the brakes and suspension, this means the entire rear axel has been changed so it has rear discs now.

When I got it, it had on it a brand new UCH which the guy bought and had to have coded from Renault, which I can provide a receipt for as its still under warranty.

The car went into Renault as soon as I bought it for them to check it over for my own peace of mind, the specialist sport guy was there and told me the car was fine and everything was working great apart from the exhaust, because it had a decat on it when I bought it, it was apparently messing with the running of the engine, it was running under power and the lamba sensors were missing so it had the engine diog light on, so I went to Longlife and had a custom exhaust built and fitted to the car, it now has a sport cat on it, this whole system cost £600.

The car had brand new Pirelli Nero Zeros on the back when I got it and I’ve just put on Toyo Proxes T1-R's on the front
I also bought a new stereo for the car, a Panasonic CQ-C7303N, plays all discs including mp3, has a remote, input for ipod, motorised front panel ect. Check here for full spec: http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5186/referer/rc_froogle.html (doesn’t come with Bluetooth)

I then had someone out from a tuning company to remap it, the guy messed it up so it went to Renault and they put a new tdc sensor and loom on it but then worked out it was the ecu, but the tdc sensor is a really common fault on this car so you can be assured that will never go wrong on you now and the new part is obviously under warranty.

The car has on it a brand new ECU as well then, eventually remapped, the new map gives an extra 24bhp and improves drivability, gets rid of little problems like flat spots and you even get better mpg because of all the extra torque. The car really does drive great.

With the remap, 4-5bhp from exhaust and 1-2bhp air filter the car is running easily over 200bhp. The speed is unbelievable and the remap has certainly made a difference!!
It will outrun most things on the road but also excels around corners, the 182 is renound for being the best handling hot-hatch, and as the 1.2 has the same chassis as the 2.0 and the brakes and suspension have all been converted, it drives the same as a real 182. (FASTER because of the remap and exhaust!)

The car has been lowered 40mm front and back, with callipers painted yellow, the same colour as the springs.

It is sat on 17" Fox Racing alloys which are in good condition and come fitted with locking wheel nuts.

The interior is the grey and green billabong interior, it has sports seats which have no rips or tears or fag burns in, the interior is in great condition. The steering wheel has been changed for the 182 sports wheel, the gear knob is now a metal sporty one and Sparco racing pedals are fitted. Also, there are green interior neon’s in the footwells.

It has professionally fitted, all legal, tinted privacy glass windows.

As well as the brand new headunit, it has had all the speakers professionally changed improving sound from the boring standard ones, 6x9 speakers on the parcel shelf and amp and sub in the boot, the sub is 2 x 10” subs in a bass tube, the speakers, sub and amp are all JBL.

Also in the boot is a rear Sparco strut brace fitted.

As you can see a massive amount of money has been spent on this car and a lot of love and attention to detail has gone into modifying it.

I have run the car through a MOT today even though it wasn’t out til June just to prove its safe and all ok, also, 9 months tax remaining.

The car is unbelievably fast, it is just crazy!! Deserves a lot of respect but is so forgiving in that is will get you out of trouble with the amazing handling, I had a 1.8 Corsa C SRi before this and cant even start to compare.
Really does stick to the road like sh*t to a blanket! Hehe

The car looks much better in real life, needs to be seen, it’s gorgeous. I’m going to be so sorry to see it go!!

The bonnet has a scratch and small dents in it, it looks like it’s been keyed and had someone jump on it? You can see what I mean in the pics.

I’ve tried to be as honest as I can with the description but if you unsure about anything please ask or come and view it.

Just to summarise, I’ve had the car just less then a month, paid to have the car inspected by Renault (£80) Exhaust (£600) Remap (£225) TDC and loom (£185) Tyres (£150) Headunit (£200) MOT (£45) Flat blade wipers (£30) and it has a brand new ECU.

Any questions at all please ask away.

Engine can be heard running if you want. Runs perfectly fine and you can hear the sound of the exhaust too.

First to see the car will buy it. The only thing the buyer will need to do is send off the logbook to the DVLA to change the engine size.

1 previous owner, 34k miles, 12 months mot, 9 months tax, 1 blooming fast car!

How much do you rekon?

Cheers

looks pretty tidy mate, stick a set of ph2 rear lights and remove chrome number plate surrounds and will be on to a winner

  2003 MR2 Roadster
I'll be honest mate - it looks chavvy with that roof spoiler, dont like the blacked in lights or coloured calipers.

Think you are looking at about £3200

You won't get nowhere near what you might think it's worth tbh mate imo . The majority of people would want a real 182 . As to the remap , exhaust and air filter giving over 200bhp i very much doubt that , knock off about 15bhp and you might be nearer the mark ;)

Good luck with the sale though .

ALOT of work gone into it but yo are limmiting yourself to a very narrow market.
Not many insurance companies will touch them but the ones that will, will try it on, some of the modifications wont suit the type of person who maybe could afford to insure it as a 182 conversion.
Also the question to be asked is why you want to sell so soon after the conversion was done?
Is the car registered as a 2 litre? would you sell it still registered as a 1.2 and leave it up to the buyer?

if insurance allowed it i would have it apart from spoiler front mesh and sound system, smart motor non the less

yeah it's registered as 1.2 still and just dawned on me really it's not worth the risk, so car is off road now, so miles will stay frozen. will tomorrow look into getting insurance done properly, how do i go about it? have to get a engineers report done to say car is ok but then how do they determine what insurance group it will be know roughly how much it'd be? i'm 18 with 1 years no claims and paying less then £700 now fully comp!
but yes if i sell it now, the buyer can do what they like, it's their risk!

Insurance is gonna absolutely rape you, if you can get insured on it as a 2.0l

And i'm agreed with the above. If you're planning on selling it, it'll be a very small market unfortunately - tough to put a price on.

lol dunno if i'm regretting spending the 1500 notes now just to mot it and stuff. another option will be putting a 1.2 lump back in? better look into how much work that would be? as in could i just leave 182 gearbox and everything in? just get a 1.2 engine and ecu? hmmm

not worth puting a 1.2 lump back in since its had so many other modifications (suspension breaks, gearbox,) everything that it wouldnt make much differnence on insurance quote as its going to be sky high anyway.

sell the car as is and cut your losses imo.

Sadly any power mods / engine changes will make this WELL more than a 182 to insure properly. Try Flux, but assume they will class as gp 20. (got the tee shirt on another car)

I reckon as far as getting money back, remove the chavvy bits, stereo and sell as a track car. Either that, or put up an honest ad and let someoone else take the risk with insurance etc

There are small mods and big mods, but anyone making a claim based on the info on the V5 will soon realise that they don't have insurance :( - this is a big mod!

Good luck, hope you didn't pay too much for it

Hmm, really tough one this.

I would question the "legal" tints
Exterior looks ok, except spoiler, lights and tints...., Interior is not good ( and lets be honest that is what you look at )
Insurance will be a killer for anybody under 30, and people above it will want a real one!
Bin that sub, neons and 6x9's, all too "boy racer" really.

Register it as a 2.0L as this is one less this to worry about for the new owner. Get an ins quote, it may not be as bad as you think - NOT, but it will give you an idea how to market it. DO NOT SPEND ANYMORE MONEY on it, you may as well burn it.

Good luck selling it, just not sure who to.

I really hope this isn't a forsale thread! ;)

But in all seriousness any advice I could give is pretty much outlined in the previous posts.

As a 1.2 2003 Dynamique it's probably worth somewhere around £3000 - £3500 mark. As a 182 conversion it's probably worth less to be honest as people simply wont want to touch it! :dapprove:

  '03 182 replica -for sale
got tomorrow off, who do i ring to see about changing v5 and what insurance group it will the be ect? does it have to go off for a engineers report then?

There is a section on the V5 for changing the details I believe, but before I did that I think I'd give DVLA a ring to confirm first.

As for insurance group a 182 is 16 I believe and a Trophy is 17. As yours is a 182 conversion with further modifications I suspect it will be higher, maybe 20 as stated previously.

  '03 182 replica -for sale
do they just adjust to the insurance group of the car the engine has been taken out of then?
yeah need to ring them. cheers tho lads, for making me realise what a risk it was driving it, could have like went down if i'd had a crash and hurt someone with invalid insurance. and if someone crashed into my prode and joy without insurance, i know i'd flip my lid lol

  Lotus Elise 111R
I believe you will only have invalid ins if you insure under it's v5 details without notifying them. Surely if you hve insured it at all you told them of the 182 conversion??

If so, then you will know exactly what it will cost...or else you have insured it as a 1.2 which is illegal, and will give you invalid insurance.

PS It does not matter what group it is in, the quote will be individul to you, especially once modifications begin....

  Lotus Elise 111R
was yeah! course else it would all be sorted and i'd be on the road :D

Without wanting to get too personal here.......:nono:

Why did you buy it if you could'nt even afford to insure it, let alone run it?

One call to DVLA to see how easy it is to change, the other to your insurance company....I am afraid you may go into shock and give the money pit away for nothing!!!!

i have money but after having spent 1500 on it i am gonna be tight and thinking geting a car with more mpg would be betetr for city use as im doing that all the time. parents pay my insurance :) but am guessing they wont pay however much this will be. need to find out how much it will be and sort something like now!

  '03 182 replica -for sale
^^Parents pay insurance? Booooo
:):):) on 1.8 corsa c sri tho was group 9, and if this is maybe gonna be a 20 i got no change but i could see how much could get outta them :) and pay rest? wanna keep car really, it is a bloody machine

When i was talking to one of the guys at Powerflow he had a Corsa with a Calibra engine in . He said he needed an engineers report stating what had been done and what power it was producing . Something to do with if it had more than double the power of the original car then the insurance shot up to silly money . Can't remember the full details as it was a couple of years ago now .

Most insurers won't touch it and for those that will, you may as well bend over and pull your trousers down.

I imagine it will be equiv to 20 (especially if you reveal all other mods). Its worse than adding a turbo. Perhaps you should go back to the tuner and ask them to map it to 80bhp! - print out the map, send it to insurer and go from there!

I'd be very surprised if you get quoted under £2k if at all!!

Good luck though and glad to hear you've done the right thing by stopping driving uninsured!
