What tyres for 172 Cup

Will soon need all four doing and read somewhere on here that some go for 205s (45 profile ?) as opposed to OE 195s

Is this the way to go ? Any drawbacks ?

What should I expect to pay and can anyone recommend a good supplier (Northants area) ?

Cheers.

  406 passion wagon..

Going 205, will alter the cars gearing slightly and in turn modify the speedo readings. But should be very mininmal.

Not too sure which way the gearing will go, think it will increase your overall wheel diameter (as the 45 profile is a %age of the width i believe!) so you will have taller gearing (higher top speed) but isnt a huge change.

Id imaine grip would be slightly improved.

Final not, more overall diameter, more weight! (I guess)

Hope that helps.

Im guessing the 195s will be cheaper, as more common.

I have just had a 2 fronts replaced. Went for Goodyear GSD3 F1s.

Rears are still std contis..not for much longer though...the f1 have so much more grip than the contis the car now just wants to oversteer everywhere especially in the slightly slippery conditions.

With F1 all round i can imagine the grip level will be so much better than the contis...not that there anything wrong with them..

They were std 195s.

Tyre Warehouse in Brackley, did mine.

i did consider getting 205s but was warned that it would upset the feel of the steering. Contis are good, but after 2 trackdays, they went of quick, especially on the tyre walls. Got some Toyo T1ss & they grip slightly better, but stiffer side walls mean they might last longer!! (Look good too!).

Ive just had a set of 205 michelin pilote exaltos (182 tyres) fitted. Handling seems a tad sharper, not much in it ive found.

All in all it depends how rich you are as 205s add about £20 to the cost of each tyre over 195s

better grip on the exaltos but seems to tramline alot though and is more twitchy in the wet than contis, anything is better than contis though

Ive got 205x45 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s all round and the rock! :) Much better than the crap on there before! Handling in pinsharp, maybe a little oversteer from time to time but grip is pretty immense.

So 205/45 Michelin Exalto on a 172 Cup would be a good bet then ?

Wasnt sure about this at first - but the standard 195s do seem a little "stretched" across the rim, suggesting theres scope for 205 without causing any probs.

Whats a good price on these ?
