What will be displayed on the upper dash display if I replace the head unit?

Latest in a series of 'I'm not very good at searching' noob threads...
Thinking of popping a Bluetooth head unit but wondering what will happen to the upper display.
Will it keep the time and temp or go completely blank?

I think Alpine have an adapter with a display out but from what I've found its pretty expensive and the Alpine unit itself is a fair bit more then the Pioneer I've got my eye on.

On my 197, it says 'Renault' where the track info was in the left hand corner. Time and temperature is still there

My 172 also says Renault where track info was
