What would you pick? 172ff or cup

  BMW bus
I like to think I chose the cup cos im a 'real driver' and can really make the most of the weight savings, wider track, lower suspension etc etc, but in reality, I chose it cos I think its the best looking of the 172/182's. If i could have a cup with ABS and the FF seats then I would

I just think the FF looks a little too plain to the untrained eye, but thats just my opinion

  Mini Cooper S sport
FF every time - that one hot day in the summer makes it worth having aircon! Plus I wouldn't be without xenons.

  RB 197 + Cup Pack
When I bought my 172 cup I chose it over the ff because in my opinion it looks better and it was also cheaper. I wasn't too fussed about not having all the extras as the cup was a step up from the Ford Ka I had previously anyway. Although now I have a ff 197 & I have to say, I do like having the extras now!!

Meh, xenons on Clios are will over-rated. I chopped the Cup in for a Cup packed 182 and they offer nothing better in terms of light output. I was disapointed, look pretty but thats it.

Cup for me as i'm planning on (eventually) tracking it and the weight saving/lack of ABS are big pluses. also, not much of a gadget freak so the FF toys weren't an attraction.

it is embarassing that some people insist that they're more 'manly' because they own a Cup though - it's a Renault Clio - they're about as manly as a pair of slip-ons.

  RS mk2 172
Lol reading some of these posts you would think there was some major differences in power. Its the same car with 80kg less in weight and as for cars in the 90s not having the same power as the cup do we all remember RS turbocharged Fords? Yes many of them had ABS too!

Werent the RS Fords only around 130bhp as standard though, with a 0-60 of around 8secs?

Yes the Escort RS turbo was but there were many which had loads more poke than this and who ran an RS ford standard? These cars were as cheap as chips to tune being turbocharged and whilst Im not wanting to stray off topic by talking about 80s cars Im merely pointing out that 172 bhp in a small car aint no new discovery.

  Will soon be 172!
Cheers for all your answers and feedback.
Some heated responses there!

I will test drive both cars in the next 2 weeks to see for myself.
Will keep you all informed of what I will buy.

Think some of the posts have missed the point. 99.9% of the time most of us aren't racing Cup's and FF's so its irrelevant which is "quicker". ESP was introduced quite late in the production so you'll find as many if not more FF's without ESP than with. ESP and ABS are nice to have and can save lives but still no substitute for driving within your limits and as conditions allow.

The choice between the two depends on your budget, insurance, and what your looking for in a car. If you like toys and better comfort get a FF, if you want something more raw get a Cup. Personally i'd test drive a couple of each to get a feel then make your decision. When buying most 172's should have had the cambelt done by now so I'd want at least 500 quid off if it hasn't been done.

FF is better though :rasp:

I wish I could comment, all I know is,
I used to drive a Saxo VTS,

now I drive a 172 cup.
Which is supposed to be a raw feel car,
and I have more luxuries and poke than my Saxo.
:p Winning combo tbh.

  Will soon be 172!
Thanks to you all. So much to think about. But now wanting a cup more.
Fingers crossed that i find a good 1 in the London area.
